Thought id add my two cents here.
- MVP for the game and add a line that they were MVP in their player history - not a trophy though.
- anything to do with benefits from the 3pt shootout though, im in total disagreeance. and here is why:

When you look at the guys who make the cut for 3PT shooting, there is a minimum of attempts of 3PT shots in order to be considered. And its actually quite high. So you never get any backups nominated, AND more importantly, those people who play inside offenses all season where the number of 3PT shots is small, will never get their guards nominiated, even if their percentage is mint. the players who get nominated are those guys who are on teams where the offense is Patient, RNG, etc and their guards are shooting lots of 3's.

Ive been playing since season 11 and have never had a player nominated for 3PT competition, because ive mainly focused on standard/inside offenses.

So the problem is, is that if you introduce a benefit for the guy who wins it or nominated, (ie: merchandise, pops), then how on earth am I going to get someone nominated? Im going to have to start using a different offence all season, and I will haev to make sure that the guy whom i want to get a pop from the 3pt shootout is a guy i actually want an extra pop for (ie: a trainee) which means sacrificing him in league games AND playing an offence which doesnt suit my team. suddenly everyone is using patient/motion/rng, and playing trainee's at PG position in order to get a free pop or $$ during ASG.

So no, sorry im violiently against any form of benefit from the 3PT shootout and in general, any real league/player benefit from the ASG.
im ok with general recognition in the form of something in their player history, (do the all-star game stats get kept in the player statistics? There is an additional feature that might be alright).

for me the activity is the key, which will screw the voting method.

But even when you can not vote your own players, you can vote tactical to make it more likely that they appear, in voting scrubs(or the worst player avaible)

All-Star voting in real life in sports is not a perfect system where you see people whom don't deserve be named starter over a guy backing them up, or sometimes a guy gets snubbed. It is a quite frequent thing across all sports' all-star voting, course when fans vote, they just vote for their favorite players rather than those whom deserve it...

Baseball's asg was most recent so I'll use it. David Wright, had higher in every statistical category than Pablo Sandoval, but was his backup, despite hitting .050 higher, 4 more hr, 11 more sb, 30+ more RBI 20+ more runs.

Andrew McCutchen, whom I would say with his MLB best BA and the Pirates in 1st place at the time, was front-runner for MVP, was backing up Melky Cabrera... from SF, whom all he had was the 2nd best BA in baseball, behind McCutchen, and some SB.
