Due to my "presence in the industry" for more than a decade, I am the kind of user/player that would rather hear about the harsh reality and nasty back doors than about pink ponys and guaranteed Nirvana. It'd be the kind of information that would help me figure out the appeal of the game better + I don't think I am that cheerful of a person myself...so I kind of like it that way...it's easier to beat expectations

Yeah, we seem to be on the same wave length
But it's refreshing to read on some of a fellow noob's experiences - there is no one that can understand the context better, no matter how hard they try.

How has it gone in that month? has the game grown on you? has the workload increased? decreased? feeling any progress? it'd be great to find out something to look forward to. Obviously, I'd appreciate the truth and not some sugar coated lines

And I do relate to your strategy as a beginner. I kind of used my "female intuition" and went with my gut feeling of investing in youth (that's one of the few elements that all managerial games have in common). Planning on training 2 18yo (until I figure out what is the most efficient workload/trainingload), even though I am looking for potentially a 3rd one (just lost him on the market because I was stuck on the forum)

I went for level 4 on the coach though (the level 5 seemed too expensive, even though I did have my eyes on some...but again, those damn weird bids and teams being over zealous kind of kept me away from further looking into level 5 options + RiP suggested a maximum of level 4 in the guide and I reckon he might be onto something giving the fact that a new team has neither the infrastructure nor the capital to go big)

Went for building the arena as well...another successful gut feeling I guess (didn't go big though...and maybe I should have, now that I read more into it)

And YEEES! Trading is usually my favorite thing in a managerial game (it doesn't mean that I am good at it though). And only then, player development

I am keen on that draft though. Like, literally the only thing that still keeps my interest in the game fairly high (also the only new and different element from other games that I play) so I kind of want to be positive about it Don't really care about the draft results as I care about the whole process. Much like about that All Star game that I can't figure out who's going to play in just yet...and I kind of want to

Big time thanks for the advice though!

I disagree about training.
I don’t see any roi for most people. Better to use training with basic trainer team training

now I am worried

How useless are those trainers?!?!

When you want to train skills of your players, trainers are necessary. Depends on the way you choose in the game.

most people give advice cuz they want to not cuz they can or should
is the best advice you could get from WW

yes, but they'll end up costing me 40k+ (been following those kind of coaches for days before I gave in and bought the one I did) and then the salary increase will basically make me end up far worse than I would by replacing the current coach in a shorter period of time. That being said, this is my trainer's salary situation Last week's salary: $ 16 604
This week's salary: $ 16 894

fair argument about the doctor though - that has just earned Mr. Luukas Liiv some days on unemployment benefits

but aye, I like what I am reading right there. Now things are starting to add up and kind of (rather more than less) answer to my questions. I like the 3 players training path with not really being bother to promote mix. I'll have one of those and a large coke

Cheers!

You said that, not me:-D I'd save this label for different users but I can't imagine playing BB without taining players. But there's still the option I have lack of imagination.

I'm not saying to ignore harsh realities, but that having fun is also an important aspect. As you said, you don't want a purely financial game, you also want player development even though it might not yield the best ROI.

Speaking of ROI, I would advise that every time you have some cash to put into your arena, you calculate the current ROI of each of the different seats and expand the one(s) that currently have the highest ROI (instead of just starting with the luxury boxes and courtside seats). You should keep in mind the final layout of the arena, which is indeed something like Wolph suggested (50/500/5000/15000) The boxes and courtsides are fixed at 50/500 maximum, and depending on your view you can build a couple thousand less or more lower tier seats (I went for 7000) and fill up with bleachers up to 20.000 total seats. You won't reach those numbers any time soon (takes multiple seasons), so you can just build the most profitable seats ROI-wise for the time being.

About transfer prices, there's indeed a large number of overpiced players on the market, and managers do bid irrationally because they're unknowing or impatient (not everyone has time to hunt for the optimal buy, and just want a player right now, the instant gratification generation so to say). So patience pays off on the market. The transfer estimates generated by the game are not very accurate (though it does give you a slight idea if you don't know any better way to determine value), because it does not account for the value of individual skills (it just looks at age, potential, salary and TSP in recent period).

Speaking of value of skills, OD is indeed generally accepted as most valuable, followed by IS. Besides that there's difference in opinion as different player and team builds evolve, but something to take into account is the training time required for skills. OD trains slow, DR/HA/JS/RB train fast so are generally less valuable. This is especially the case for out of position skills (OD/PA also for bigs, IS/ID for guards). Also the alternatives available for a skill weighs in. A guard with low OD is bad at defending, but if he has low JS but high IS he can still score (you're just limited in offensive schemes).

now we're talking
lining up opinions leads to validation and setting in stone I like this! consensus gives me confidence to go through with certain moves

so OD and IS! cheers! I knew there had to be a different importance assigned to skills (also glad to see the reasoning behind it,which kind of makes sense so I'll use that when taking other elements in consideration). But yes, now things are starting to come together nicely. I am liking it cheers once again
