You may be correct that it is supposed to help fan survey, but let me give you my situation from this season.

I finished 4th...could have tanked the last game to finish 5th but decided not to. Here is the breakdown:

Salary paid for the extra week: $240k

Income from 1 playoff game: $70k

Playoff Outcome: 40 point loss due to me trying outlandish tactics to see if I could pull a miracle. Should have lost by 15 if I played normal tactics.

Current Fan Survey: 2.5 balls
I am pleased with the team's performance this season: 2.5 balls

WTH right??? I mean my fan survey was 3.5 balls on pleased with the team's performance prior to the playoff game. Then i get beat and it goes down to 2.5 balls. So basically assuming that this translates equally to next season (which it has in the past) I am getting screwed not only financially, but also on my fan survey which will translate into next season.

How the hell can any of you say that it is better to make the playoffs and get beat in the first round then it is to finish 5th??? Most times you lose a playoff game you lose favor on your fan survey, but you don't if you are idle. Someone please tell me why it was smart to lose $170k in the current season and screw the fan survey for the next season by finishing 4th. Are you going to sell me on season ticket holders? Hell no, it isn't a big enough change to matter and is overshadowed by the fan survey detriment.

Okay, end rant.

I know it's a drop in the sea, but if you tanked last game to be 5th, you wouldn't have 3.5 balls entering playoff week, but 2.5 balls or less. Right?

Possibly, but it didn't fluctuate that much during the regular season either. I could have easily lost the previous game and won the last game and still finished 5th, which would be the smart thing to do and then more than likely I'm sitting higher than 2.5...which I believe I would have been if I lost the last game of the regular season as well. If you are in the playoffs you shouldn't drop a full ball because of a loss. You should only be able to gain at that point for the category of being pleased with the current season. It makes zero sense for your fans to be less pleased when you lose a playoff game you should lose.

biut those 2,5 ball are different calculated then the balls for "the last" season next season, so maybe you loose some income in merch next week, but you gain extra visitor and merchandise income the full next season.

Are you sure? Because mine has carried over from previous season to current season many times. In fact I finished 3rd in the previous season and lost in the first round yet i still have 2.5 balls for the "I am pleased with the team's performance last season" category.

So it seems you made a conjecture without proof and made it sound like fact. I wish you were right, but in my case you are definitely not.

i had often more then one ball difference, after loosing the finals the survey is also down and made it often to the second place.

It seems the solution would be to make adjustments to how the fan survey works. The way it works now is a bit silly and makes normally fickle fans downright wishy washy. It is silly to think that fans react better if you lose the games at home and win on the road, but under the current system that is exactly what happens. I will make more revenue tanking home games and winning road games? My fans actually go for this?

This is meant to further discussion, not be reposted in suggestions (allready similar suggestions anyway). Fan survey needs to be less fickle and perhaps reflect the last several games instead of putting so much emphasis on the most recent game. Playoff road losses should have little or no effect. The way HCA is so dominant in this game anyway, how can fans expect a road playoff win?. If you want to destroy this whole '5th is better than 4th' rediculousness just have making the playoffs actually be beneficial to the fan survey as it should be

Think in real life if the Patriots decided to lose their last three games of the season because it is more financially viable. How would the fans react to that? Not the way they do in BB, thats for sure.

Fix this

The Bengals do this every year, sometimes long before they're even eligible for the playoffs.
