with some of the dust settled and on the eve before the opener, new power rankings are in order:
1. west side tigers:
marrero is leaving, but despite that, west side still boasts the highest team salary including studs and mvp candidates. gybels is old but still very effective. at this point i think west side deserves the top rank.
2. baker street irregulars:
no changes to the irregulars' roster. they have no declining players and are, at the moment, the big dogs in the blue conference.
3. philadelphia phantasm:
much like with chip kelly, we're waiting for the other shoe to drop with philly. supposedly manager virtuoz is planning a splashy purchase. a high end big? we'll see, but at the moment, they chill at 3 and are very much in title contention.
4. bucsblue lob city:
everett white is gone. that hurts on a few different fronts. first and most obvious, he was the inside presence and counterpart to tompkins. secondly, and perhaps more importantly, he was another body. in addition to some of their important players are aging, they only have 7 now. one is a pretty sick rookie, though. i'm sure bucsblue will be back shortly but on paper their roster is 4th without white.
5. space von jam:
a relatively young team with a stud mvp candidate, they still have holes so it's tough to call them title contenders, but rank #5 is pretty high praise for a rookie d3 season. can they live up to the hype? or will their game shape slowly diminish and cause them to fall into irrelevancy? time will tell.
6. frosty bc:
yeah on paper maybe #6 but i'm here to tell you that's the only way i'll be 6th at anything this season. i'll be lucky to avoid another relegation series lol. it'll pay off monetarily in the long-run, but god losing is gonna suck. still, young deep team that you can't sleep on.
7. walnut streets:
solid squad, great manager, mvp candidate. the team has the whole package. some of their players are getting a bit long in the tooth, so it's hard to predict them doing real playoff damage (decline over the season), but you never know. they'll be good.
8. mitsubishi eclipse:
i do like their team's skillset but again, hard to see them doing much beyond maybe a 4 seed due to age concerns. that said, their manager knows what he's doing and manages what he has very well. look for them to be in playoff contention.
9. homeboyz:
after much pressure from the league at large, homeboyz get the bump they deserve. they have high quality trainees and a rising star in qoÅŸqar. they're pretty thin which would figure to make consistent winning difficult, but hey, they did it last season and their starting 5 should only get better. they'll be in playoff contention.
10. crosstown united:
one of those teams who has done well with what they have, but they ain't got much. starting 5 can ball, hell of a trainee in colin, but age concerns and infrastructure would seem to restrict what they have the freedom to do. they had a fantastic rookie season. can they repeat? lol, with the way my team is gonna play, maybe.
11. diamantes:
they just bought some trainees, which is good because 4 of their starting 5 are declining. any other season they'd be in serious trouble to demote but the bottom 4 are not good, so they're probably safe.
12. ballstars:
you know, it's a young team, but by d3 standards, not super talented. same with diamantes, they'll struggle mightily, but they'll probably be ok this season.
13. lambdalambdalambda:
the tri-lambs have one guy: krzempek. they've been a wonderful team in this league and i wish them the best of luck

. who knows, if they really tried, they MIGHT be able to avoid relegation 1 more season if they reeeeeeeeeally wanted to.
14. pearl city:
this team has 3 very, very nice trainees. stud trainees. beyond that, they got nothin. i have this feeling though, that they're setting up for some super splashy transfers. they only have 7 guys, you have to think s
