Those categories are a reflection of the minutes played for your team. It goes on a season-by-season basis. Have you noticed any benefit to having a player in one category rather than another?

What do you mean it affects fan base? Where did you get this information, and how does having a key player affect your fan base (do you mean attendance?) as apposed to say a regular starter?

I am familiar with the star players, and am not afraid that they will be transferred

starting with that, and yes, in the end it affects attendance and merchandise.

edit:
this is really weird, in season 16, 1st game was in 2011.04.23.
roles was different at least until training in 2011.05.06.
and then reseted between that date and next training in 2011.05.13.
why the reset after first games are played?

I think it's just me then... because my merchandise actually increased last season when my best players started and played more minutes in a week that also directly affected their roles... or is it because just of those starts and minutes, and not the roles...

Yeah, that's the same kind of effect as saying that players with the key player role are more likely to have lower gameshape because the players who get 100+ min a week would naturally have the key player role.

All the players in my rotation have never dropped below 8 (mostly 9) unless they got injured, start of the season, or just after the All-Star game where some had very little minutes to play that week.

Right. And you almost certainly do a very good job of managing minutes so you don't have guys getting 40+ minutes a game three times a week. I was more talking about guys at lower levels who play their best players all the time, who end up being "key players" but are in inept GS.
