As you may have noticed, I'm on-board with this idea, and the original thread has been closed.

el macca has asked Acworth and I to maintain this, so I'll gladly do so.

Later tonight early tomorrow we'll finalize it all.

aside from the NT rankings which everyone can see there is the active user list which regular users would have to go through each country page. a very long process to say the least. but when i did that this morning Lithuania had 1,181 active users putting them at #4 behind Spain, Italy, and France.

I know someone who could possibly have a tool that can sort countries by number of users...

I think this is a really good idea, but it might create some headaches. Can middleweights only play middleweights? Or if the lightweight belt holder loses against a supercruiserweight, does he lose his belt?

After typing that, I guess the answers to my questions would be No and No. You only put the belt up for defense when you play a team in your weight class, and of course you can play anyone anytime. Some holders might dodge games against weight class opponents, but most probably won't.

Anyway, great idea El Macca and major kudos to GM-JuicePats for nobly getting on board.

Once I scored a basket that still makes me laugh.

Or maybe a belt can go no higher than its "true" level, but teams can play up and take belts higher than their level.

For instance, if a Welterweight nation (Canada) beat a Light-Heavyweight nation (China), Canada takes the Light-Heavyweight belt. The belt is then up for grabs any time Canada plays a nation Light-Heavyweight and below. So, if Canada played the USA in qualifying and lost, it would retain the Light-Heavyweight belt, but if it played Puerto Rico and lost, Puerto Rico would take the belt.

This allows tiny countries the thrill of taking the big belts without worrying about the risk that all the belts will end up in Italy's hands.

That's probably going to be the plan.

After a good night's rest I am glad this thread went in the right direction.

Good job folks.

I am still in favor of distributing the original belts randomly (I have a nice die at home which I used to judge a war game once and it is very neutral ;) )

OR

If we hand them out, I suggest we hand them out to the lowest ranked teams.
Why? easy, this way they, and some other teams can get a hold of it for a short period before it gets into the hands of the leaders of each division.

This ofcourse is only a proposition, and you guys do whatever you want to pick the initial holders.

They are not your friends; they dispise you. I am the only one you can count on. Trust me.

Another thing, at the lowest level with 42 teams, it might be worth thinking about having four continental belts - asia and oceniana, the americas, europe, africa I guess - to help with the volume issue. I'm sure you guys can find the right criteria.

Proper name - the International Friendly Competition

right, admin, as the first IFC president, I appoint JuicePats as commissioner and Acworth as assistant commissioner. Lord of Doom is invited to join as executive vice president and we need another EVP for the steering committee, preferably non-US and non-mod to have some wider representation. I'm delegating this choice to Lord of Doom, if he's willing to join.

If it takes off, we can have some elections somewhere down the line to make it a bit more democratic!

Suggestions for who does what

President - appoints initial officers, formulates IFC structure. No voting powers unless the steering committee is split 2-2, when he or she may cast a deciding vote or place the motion on hold until the next meeting. Responsible for proposing any motion to hold elections for offices.

Commissioner - Oversees rankings. Proposes ideas to steering committee. Liaises with Heavyweight, Light Heavyweight and Middleweight belt holders. Arranges meetings of the Steering Committee.

Asst. Commisioner - Monitor weight class criteria and propose motions for any revisions, liaises with Lightweight and welterweight belt holders. Proposes ideas to steering committee.

EVPs - attend steering committee meetings and can propose ideas. Has equal voting power to the Comiss and Asst. Comiss. May take on additional responsibility from other officers if asked (and willing) to do so.

Tasks facing the committee:-
1. appoint one/ two EVPs
2. ratify IFC name, or propose and choose new one
3. agree on formula to appoint initial champions
4. contact initial champions and see if they're up for it.
5. agree rules of engagement for championship contests

Think that's a quick and easy workable structure and task list... any thoughts? while I'm away, I'd like Doom to deputise as president.

I look forward to seeing what you do with this idea while I'm away on vacation (oops, holiday) and I'll see you all again in mid-July!
