What about trading? If you allow people not to pay salaries, then it will be easier to buy every kind of player during the offseason at low prices and then to sell them just before the new season's beginning. Rebuild their teams will become easier than it should be.

Why not wipe out the cash for the relegation series between 6th and 7th teams. 5th through 8th immediately stop paying salaries once the regular season ends. Then to address the 3rd and 4th place teams, make an ammendment to the new CBA by paying salaries only as long as your team is still alive. i.e. Fourth place team plays on Tuesday, gets smoked and is now out of the playoffs. They would pay their players for one game that week, or half of their salaries, then go into offseason mode paying no more in salaries. You only pay as far as you go in the playoffs and on a per game basis. The 6th and 7th place relegation series get no cash for the game but are playing a meaningful friendly for the right to stay up in their league.

with all the other aspects brought up, I consider this change the biggest dismprovment possible.

There could have been dozens of other easy ways to fix the fifth place issue without worsening the other teams situation or even changing the whole game. Especially the point Kukoc brought up (stockpiling cheap players in the playoffs) is so bad...

Not a big fan of the 5 seeds possibly/probably earning more money than some playoff teams. Why don't the two 5 seeds just get 2 additional automated scrimmages with each other, splitting the revenue and eliminating the variables of the proposed new system? That way they get a reasonable sum of money but no more than any playoff teams. The logistics and structuring may not be there but it's more fair.

edit: well, I forgot that the first playoff game is do or die and it's only a 1 game playoff schedule for losers. Meh. I'd still probably prefer it.

That would have seemed like the easiest and most sensible solution. You have the 5 seeds play one friendly with revenue in the first week of the playoffs, and the 5 seeds plus the teams that lose in the first and second round (and consequently don't play the final) play another friendly with revenue in the second week of the playoffs.

That way the 3rd and 4th seed get at least 1/3 of an income plus the chance of playing in the playoffs (and the presumed better fan reaction) plus an additional 1/2 income, the 5th seed gets basically one full income (considering two 50% incomes) over the two weeks, and the 1st and 2nd seed get at least 2/3 of an income plus an additional 1/2 income. Obviously the more you win in the playoffs, the more incomes you have.

Paying salaries isn't a question of winning or losing, paying salaries is a question of playing or not playing a competitive game. Since we have the playoff transfer deadline in place, you'll have to pay at least one week of salaries if you're in the playoffs.

So I don't really see where your strategy fits in. If you managed to sell your roster before mondays' update in the current system after losing tuesdays playoffs match you would have achieved the same. It seems to me only in the rare occasion you buy a monster team, pay their salaries at monday, win tuesdays game, accidently lose saturdays game - not relegation but only in conference finals -, you will save one week of salary in the new system. I'm not sure that would be such a massive disadvantage compared to the old system.

haha i am currently using this situation:] bidding for few players who has combined salary of 85k:D i go to ~-100k per week if i pay them but if i pay i win and i go to div 4 then i can handle that salary, but if i lose i dont pay salary i dont go to div 4 and i can sell them during those 2weeks:D thats is unfair for teams who had no spare cash. if u seed 1 and u have 50k starting lineup and no spare cash u meet seed 4 in playoffs who has shitty team with 15k starting salary but since he saves money for 3 seasons he buy like 200k starting lineup and blows out u and goes to the higher league, thats not fair.

I think one thing people aren't considering is with all the extra cash from not paying salaries, the bids on the off-season TL will rise to a certain extent. This may reduce the off-season deflation of player values we seem to always experience. So the benefits of the proposed day trading scenario may not be as great as they would be at first glance.

My only gripe is the current system rewarded solid financial planning for the off-season. Now that big part of the strategic side of the game is gone.

I see good and bad with these changes.

This change is the worst for common champions/finalist. Because they won't cut any costs and in addition they lost money from TV contracts. All teams lost these money, but they cut wage costs so finally their economy should be healthier, but the one of finalist probably won't be.
So fight for title is only for glory and B3 spot?
I hope there will be 50k bonus for each win in group play of B3, so that there is some potential bonus for winning the title. Or some bonus could be involved for winning the level 1 title.
