Either the player had soft capped or you were not giving him the correct training minutes for the type of training you'd selected

thats not always true.i had a SF trainee for a couple of seasons.and despite giving him proper minutes at the required position with a level 6 trainer in a single position training,he gave me 2 pops in ID in 9 weeks and 2 pops in JS in 7 or 8 weeks.i too was fed up from the slow speed of his training so I eventually decided to sell him.

One pop every 4 or 5 weeks for single position training is plausible depending on the players height and age and also the position to be trained.

I have a SF who is only 23 and I know that Im going to be lucky to get 3 ID pops for him for the whole season.

But if I didnt think it was worth it, Id train him in something else instead

had my trainee been 23,i would not have had any problems with 1 pop every 4 weeks but he was 19 when I gave him ID training..i think that 2 pops in 9 weeks would be considered slow for any 19 year old.dont you think?

Even if he was only 175cm tall, I reckon that youd expect better at the age of 19years

Generally speaking, it's not a bad thing. In a way, it will help to stop LI domination and make more use of other tactics. I vote +

Why would it stop LI domination? A LI team is one of the most cost effective options in this game...

Yeah maybe my team a lit bit extravagant, but I think that with introduction of GDP a lot of teams that played LI will realize that way need to add more JS to their roster and this means increase in salaries.

I am done with training, I once waited for one pop 7 weeks with lvl 6 trainer and said to myself - no mor

That's the point after that he was popping normally, he wasn't capped and he was only 25 yrs old, I am guessing it was because elastic effect, because I trained already high JS and his JR was very low, but anyway after that I was so frustrated and I am training only GS know :)
