with some of the dust settled and on the eve before the opener, new power rankings are in order:

1. west side tigers:

marrero is leaving, but despite that, west side still boasts the highest team salary including studs and mvp candidates. gybels is old but still very effective. at this point i think west side deserves the top rank.

2. baker street irregulars:

no changes to the irregulars' roster. they have no declining players and are, at the moment, the big dogs in the blue conference.

3. philadelphia phantasm:

much like with chip kelly, we're waiting for the other shoe to drop with philly. supposedly manager virtuoz is planning a splashy purchase. a high end big? we'll see, but at the moment, they chill at 3 and are very much in title contention.

4. bucsblue lob city:

everett white is gone. that hurts on a few different fronts. first and most obvious, he was the inside presence and counterpart to tompkins. secondly, and perhaps more importantly, he was another body. in addition to some of their important players are aging, they only have 7 now. one is a pretty sick rookie, though. i'm sure bucsblue will be back shortly but on paper their roster is 4th without white.

5. space von jam:

a relatively young team with a stud mvp candidate, they still have holes so it's tough to call them title contenders, but rank #5 is pretty high praise for a rookie d3 season. can they live up to the hype? or will their game shape slowly diminish and cause them to fall into irrelevancy? time will tell.

6. frosty bc:

yeah on paper maybe #6 but i'm here to tell you that's the only way i'll be 6th at anything this season. i'll be lucky to avoid another relegation series lol. it'll pay off monetarily in the long-run, but god losing is gonna suck. still, young deep team that you can't sleep on.

7. walnut streets:

solid squad, great manager, mvp candidate. the team has the whole package. some of their players are getting a bit long in the tooth, so it's hard to predict them doing real playoff damage (decline over the season), but you never know. they'll be good.

8. mitsubishi eclipse:

i do like their team's skillset but again, hard to see them doing much beyond maybe a 4 seed due to age concerns. that said, their manager knows what he's doing and manages what he has very well. look for them to be in playoff contention.

9. homeboyz:

after much pressure from the league at large, homeboyz get the bump they deserve. they have high quality trainees and a rising star in qoÅŸqar. they're pretty thin which would figure to make consistent winning difficult, but hey, they did it last season and their starting 5 should only get better. they'll be in playoff contention.

10. crosstown united:

one of those teams who has done well with what they have, but they ain't got much. starting 5 can ball, hell of a trainee in colin, but age concerns and infrastructure would seem to restrict what they have the freedom to do. they had a fantastic rookie season. can they repeat? lol, with the way my team is gonna play, maybe.

11. diamantes:

they just bought some trainees, which is good because 4 of their starting 5 are declining. any other season they'd be in serious trouble to demote but the bottom 4 are not good, so they're probably safe.

12. ballstars:

you know, it's a young team, but by d3 standards, not super talented. same with diamantes, they'll struggle mightily, but they'll probably be ok this season.

13. lambdalambdalambda:

the tri-lambs have one guy: krzempek. they've been a wonderful team in this league and i wish them the best of luck. who knows, if they really tried, they MIGHT be able to avoid relegation 1 more season if they reeeeeeeeeally wanted to.

14. pearl city:

this team has 3 very, very nice trainees. stud trainees. beyond that, they got nothin. i have this feeling though, that they're setting up for some super splashy transfers. they only have 7 guys, you have to think s

made some purchases recently, but not enough to contend. just rake in the money this season, brah. you've got a looooooong ways to go. these teams are 8+ season vets mostly. it takes time to get to d3 when you don't get an expansion team that happens to be in d3. you'll be losing a lot, but keep playin bud and don't let this season discourage you. it's a great game, a lot deeper than i thought when i started. the d3 money you get will help a lot. set your ticket prices high and expand. monitor how many seats you're selling and adjust prices accordingly. hire an advanced trainer under 17k per week, buy a couple trainees and start training. make sure they're young, 18 or 19 years old. probably 3k+ weekly salary. make sure they have at least allstar potential. a prospect that's small improves guard attributes far quicker than big guy attributes, and vice versa. by far quicker, i mean far FAR quicker. it's a good way to start understanding the game and building franchise value. the more you train them, the more they're worth, and this game is about building your franchise's overall value. and when you're looking at the transfer market, shop around. don't overpay, make an educated purchase. before purchasing anyone, learn the market. just look at what players similar to what you're looking for are actually being sold for. you don't want to get suckered and taken advantage of. you can get some GREAT deals on rookies, especially ones that have under perennial allstar potential. there's a 4k rookie with allstar potential i saw yesterday get sold for 10k. a GREAT prospect that you can make super valuable. if you make that guy a rounded 30k player, you could be looking at upwards of HALF OF A MILLION DOLLARS. just by buying a guy for 10k and training him. huge value improvement. expanding and training are effective, tested and true methods of accomplishing the goal of increased overall value. want to know why bucsblue is so good? look at tommie lee tompkins. he trained him from scratch. look at the size of his arena. his potential for making money is huge. his overall team value is 1 of the best 3 in this league, which is why he'll probably be in title contention again. that's what you want. good luck brah.

I like how you said I was gearing up to make some splashy purchases but with this hyperinflation I couldn't buy enough to contend so there is no point. It has taken me many seasons to get here but I think I am going to sell and try to hold out for a weaker market. That way I can be ready when I come back. 2 million used to be able to buy you a team but now it buys 1 or 2 good players.

I actually believe player prices are down. I sold players for $4 million before. Now you can't sniff those prices. Buzzerbeater deflated values. Took $$$$ out of the game.

I'm saying before Utopia you could get a quality big man for 300-500k as opposed to a million now. A good SF cost 750 -950 before and now it's 1.5 to 2 million. And good guards were a million tops but have gone up a ton. Maybe I only remember a weaker market but prices now seem rediculous.

I think the re-inflation though is much more realistic in terms of actual market value.

JMO.

Yeah, there used to be much worse distortion back when I started (season 10), and then there was price depression, but I think where we are at right now is pretty reasonable.

"Long in the tooth" yeah, definitely true with Bowers, who is now losing 1-2 skills per 3 weeks. He will definitely be a bench player by the end of this season. I haven't decided yet how I will handle that. On paper the best option is to slot Outlaw over from the 3, but I don't really want to do that. Ideally I can throw Cooper to the wolves.

Decisions, decisions.

I really LIKE the new update Power Rankings and my 0-2 start to this season will be a true indicator of me NOT being #1 as you had me earlier...LOL but last season i started 1-4 and finished 17-5... To the new managers to D3, and even those on expansion teams. Frosty said it best this is game is about $$$ of your team flexibility to add players, money you can make selling players, money you make in arena. Also Merchandise is HUGE (if merchandise is high enough it pays for your trainer, doctor, and PR guy). Merch is all about being league leaders in categories in the league (top 5 means good $). Also players you draft & train that are top players on your team and in the league is BIG BIG $.

I think Baker is the clear Big 8 Fav, with Myself, Homeboyz, walnut and Mitsh chasing him (1 of us wont make the playoffs sadly). I have purposely taken myself out of title contending hunt for a year. added a new REALLY special trainer, and added a supplementary trainee to go with my draft steal (Joe Hilton)! (5 strong attributes and 2 respectable). We are excited to see his growth and watch him hopefully be the young counterpart to Tommy who's got at least 6 more 100k salary seasons left in him! With 3 players at ages 32-33 (in key roles) this season getting rid of Everett and Steve brought in 1 million for me to spend plus dropped my team salary by 90k+ (meaning my weekly income i'm very happy about). 1 season of Arena Expansion, training, racking in money, and then selling those 3 aging players. Should mean Season 32 i am sitting with LARGE amount of money, Still have Tommy, Joe will be pretty darn good after a season of focused training and his training partner Ramon is 19 and a 6k guy. Should make for a good young front court. i will have the money to add 3-4 players to round out a Season 32 roster that i am confident can get me to D2.

With that being said I conclude by saying best of luck to the Big 8. I doubt you have to worry about BucsBlue being a headache this season. So get your payback for seasons of me Kicking your ------ now cuz next season wont be so easy. Now dont get me wrong.... I still expect with my team in rebuild mode that Tommy, Marco, Pana, and Victor are good enough to keep us right there in the hunt for a playoff spot or at WORST the 5 seed. So this isn't TANK mode Relegation. But we have sold to our fans that we NEEDED this reloading of money, growth of arena, and training of new talent badly. And the fans have said YES do it! So we know this wont be a season like the last 4 (total of 18 losses... 4.5 losses per season, 17.5 wins, and a winning % of 79.5%) This season will not be one like those. And are fans are comfortable with that!

good luck everyone! should be fun as always. Top 2 D3 leagues in all of BB IMO!!!!!!
