You forgot to mention that the result established who your adversaries were going to be in the second round.

You are playing against two undefeated group winners, while we are not. Sure, your enthusiasm is a little better right now, but your group is harder. So things are more complex than what you want to suggest. You shouldn't act like the way you see things is always the correct one. And enthusiasm has a upper bound, so it will be about the same in your so important semi-final.

And don't say you would have win it IF you've done something differently. That's another loser attitude. Saying that you "didn't want to win" or that you "would have won it if I wanted to" is what 5 year old kids usually say.

Let's do it like this: you get to decide when something is meaningful or not when you actually WIN something, ok? Because Americas runner-up and 1'st round of the Cup doesn't really cut it. Those were REALLY meaningless results.

I get to determine how I feel, not you - period.

NO ONE at this table ordered a rum & Coke
Charles: Penn has some good people
A CT? Really?
Any two will do
Any three for me
Any four will score
Any five are live

Folks, I've had a change of heart.

We should have won the Pool B Championship - I mean, what could possibly be more prestigious than that?

In fact, I'm going to see if we can resign from the rest of qualifying, since there's nothing left to accomplish that could surpass our failed attempt at a title.

Finally, in recognition of the incredible feat of Brazil, I have commissioned a trophy in their honor:

Exactly. You get to determine how YOU feel. But not how anyone else feels. You can say "For me this is meaningless" but you cannot say or imply "This is so meaningless, they are stupid for doing this or that".

Not only can I say that, I did.

The competition you are referring to is the "Americas Cup" or "Americas Tournament". It is defined in the rules of BB as a "continental championship tournament". This is not the "Americas Qualifying".

Your whole argument is incorrect. You want to say the title is meaningless just because the second place also advances to the World Cup, but the reality is that the qualification to the WC is not the ultimate goal of the competition, is just another prize. So much that we even have other chances of WC qualification afterwords.

You said that the real life continental cups are meaningful because they don't give spots in the WC. Do you know how ridiculous that sounds? Continental cups are meaningful because people are proud of their country and their continent.

Most leagues in the world, in most sports, award spots in continental competitions to teams that finish in high positions in their national league. Does that mean they think that winning the title is meaningless and finishing 4th is ok just because they qualify just the same? No, of course not. Everyone respects the titles, except you.

I am not arguing the point of reaching a goal. In my message, I have ignored "meaningless" games for the betterment of my team. Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't.

I actually might want to make a statement to Brazil - just to make them squirm and be a little concerned about the US. In the end it's about match-ups and do I gain a better match-up finishing first or second?

By being in the "inner circle", I mean there is sufficient conversation between you and the other coaches to have a strategy. I don't talk to you everyday and my strategies may be different than yours.

My only question would of been would the time between games make much of a difference to make the enthusiasm hold?

You are the coach and I respect the responsibility you have. Agree or disagree, it's not going to change the result, but there is always room for debate.
