This is what the Newbie Guide says on the forums:

“My player had a drop in his main skills. Why?”
When players reach their 30s, particularly around 32, they tend to experience random skill drops. As they get older (32 years onwards) this becomes increasingly more common. So if your player experiences skill drops it is because he is old.

Although, its important to remember that the Career Extension specialty will slow this process down. There are also cases, like what Twolfs plans, where it would be more beneficial to just demote the aging player to a backup position, rather than selling him. If you can afford it and are trying to win now, that's probably the best option. If you're building, then its not worth it.

Hey Guys..... I sure do miss your league it was fun to be in always active in the forums, wish I was still there, the skill drops on older players vary... I had a career extension trainer and it helped but not as much as I would have thought... my older players dropped just about every week one player or another... i decided after moving up to D3 that I could not compete or afford younger players since the value of my older players had decreased so much that I am doing a complete Rebuild and have some nice trainees to work with and trying to build up some cash for the brutal hit I will take next season as I fall back to D4... hopefully I will demote back into your league and be part of a great group of managers....Mad Scientist

Well my 32 yr olds haven't declined yet. I have 2 by the way. But I'm not playing them as much, so maybe that helps. Plus I'm training in area's their not at.
But the season just started so I guess time will tell. If they do start declining. It'll be tough to hold on to em both. I have around 37/38K in those two players combined. I'm gunna try to definitely stick it out this season with em, but win or lose at the end of the season, might have to drop one if not both of em. And the C would be the first one to go. He's making roughly 14K now as a backup. And probably isn't a "fan" favorite bc he hasn't been here long. So, I think we could part ways with him, if need be.
Thank you for showing that Risers. I can't talk for everyone here, but I'd like to know when players start declining ahead of time. So.that way if u want you can try getting rid or dumping him ahead of time, before he starts declining and get more outta him in the free market. And I agree with Risers. Just like if you have a team your building up with a bunch of young players. It doesn't really make sense to have a 28 year old or such. Because no matter how good that player might be, by the time your other players peak, your 28 yr old is way past his prime. So.like I think sometimes u gotta look at your team, and decide if this helps my team long term. Short term I understand it, because adding one prime player might put you over the top.

This is another reason why, my team is in the we need to win now, bc our window is closing fast. I just hope we didn't peak the last 2 seasons..time will tell I guess

Well as you guys know I see value in incorporating old players into running your team.

Build/Rebuild System:
- Pick or Purchase 3 trainees.
- Pick or Purchase 2 Scrimmage players. <$2000 salary ea.
- Purchase a Career Extension trainer with a low salary for his level.
- Pick or Purchase 4 32+yr old starters >$10000 salary ea.(3 if you're a new team, since you get a "star" player for free now)
- Buy and Sell the old players as necessary, whether it's to keep your expenses low or to make small skill upgrades.
-Once you have two trainees that can both start, do so, and alternate their starting positions every week, so they receive their training. Sell off an old player, since you don't need him anymore.
-Expand your Arena a few times during this rebuild period.
-Once your trainees are ready to contribute to winning a title, start replacing your old guys one by one with a young player.
-Switch to a fitness trainer once you're down to 2 old players.
-Once you're running 4 young players, continue to buy and sell the last old player slot.

It's very important to purchase the old guys as cheap as possible so you get as much value as possible out of him in combination with your CE Trainer.

I try to run my team realistically. I know that may not always be the best way to go, definitely in this game (buzzer beater)
But it's been working, I mean it's gotten me to 2 finals.
Like I'm the kinda coach who knows you can't run with the same 5 players for 22 games. Can u imagine how burnt out your players would be. And I started out with picking up older players, but it never really got me far in this game. You could make the argument that's because of how deep this league was back then.
But I started having success when I picked up younger players and trained the hell out of them. And it really just paying off when Romeu turned 30, and Ed 24, Lee 27. Albert and Eike fill in the rest.
And now it's about building my young players, who are on the team. My 19 and 20 yr olds, so when I do have to get rid of guys like Lee, Romeu, Albert, Eike. Hopefully I don't lose a whole lot, it all depends on my training program. And how will I can develop my players.

I know playing buzzerbeater this way, may not be for everyone, but I like trying to build my team, as if I was a real life coach lol. That's just me. I think this works for people who has an idea, and doesn't mind taking their hits, because they can see the bigger picture.
I know there are some coaches here like that, and I may not have won it all, but I hope I have at least showed you, that the system does work.

I think it's important to purchase the young players (18-22)with good potential, and building them up. Older players just take spots away from the younger players. Who then lose, training. Which hurts your team in the long term of things.

Will be easier for everyone with me having sold two top players
I’m more interested in training and making money right now,
Promotion is easy but my last draft was so much better than expected

You got a nice core of young players on your team. Build those guys up plus with the money u have. Your still in line to be a high threat in this league. To be successful tho, u probably need to train your players up a bit. I mean successful beyond this league.
But yeah, you got the right idea lol.
I'm in the process also, in training my younger players. And also adding more money.
I didn't do to will in the draft. But I did get a PF. Which is really all I needed.
Win lose, or draw. My thing has always been training my players and watch em improve. Pick up young players as needed with high potential and train em up. My main 5 are definitely reaching the end of their careers. At least as everyday players.

Good luck to you this season

I'm not sure if I should go for 3 pops in Outside Def or 2 pops in Outside Def and 4 in Inside Shot. Both would cap out Darren, but the latter would obviously take longer, since he's short. I'd also have to play him at Center. I do like the second plan more though, since he'd be a more versatile scorer. decisions...decisions...

I'll do the power rankings tonight. I'm grinding on another game atm, but I'm almost done. I forgot to do players of the game. I'll do those too
