Strictly and coach pick from depth chart behave exactly the same way for the purpose of this issue. If players would play 48 with strictly, they'd play 48 with CPfDC too. Unless something has changed in the last 10 minutes or so.
This solution you guys found sounds like a bug or poor coding by Marin, as automatic filling should pick the best of the players not already set as starter for the blank slot. That it always picks the player selected as backup without fail, even though he's the worst possible option available, sounds odd.
