So do you think that the market value of the guy you linked should go back to $1.5 million before you do something?
I don't think so.
So hard to get a straight answer.

I made an extreme case, just as you made an extreme example. We both know the game will fold before we get to that, but the fact that former D2 players are used more and more in D1 and that D3 players are used more and more in D2 is undeniable. Ryan seem to be perfectly aware this would happen (due to user reduction, FA policy and no significant changes to draft and training) when we discussed this several seasons ago, I just want to make sure you are aware of this too.

Then if you and Marin and perhaps Foto, Nickleon and the EGMs, decide that talent reduction is good for the future of the game, fine. To me the main thing is that you guys discuss among yourselves and try to understand where things are going and hopefully make decisions based on sound reasoning to get where you want to be. This, of course, implies that you should be avoiding a simplistic approach such as: 'in the past 1.5 million was the fair market value for much worse players, therefore things are fine now', because the current situation and trends are completely different compared to 25-30 seasons ago.

Note that I'm not saying that a reduction in the average talent available is a bad thing per se. I think that if it goes on for a while without being explained, it might become an issue for the long standing managers because they have seen a very different situation in the past. It's hard for managers that are used to have 100 TSP players to downgrade to 90 TSP. They are still trying to buy the 100 TSP but since there are fewer and the leagues of higher level are now also in the market for those players, they are not able to afford them and complain that prices are too high.

Reduction in talent has some advantages, of course. I think the main one is that there will be less difference between different levels of competition (D3 v D2 and D2 v D1) on average.

I think its horrible and extremely painful. Also not good for user retention.

My Utopia team cannot buy a useful player, I am in DIV IV and soon in salary floor hell. After one season expanding the arena I am sitting on a fortune of around 100k.

"Decent" players for this level go for what? like 300-400k? This is not fun. Of course some old manager with a few top division seasons and like 5-15 million in the bank cannot understand this.
