Player of the week: Week 3

Sorry for the slight delay in the player of the week, bogged down with work and personal life. And i logged in to bb only to find out Final Fantasy XIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIII is leaving the game =(. still life and the player of the week goes on in league II.1

Big 8
Player of the week goes to rebounding monster Seow Yeng Jian of Pacific Storm

Seow Yeng Jian(SYJ) has been silently contributing to Pacific Storm since the start of season 14 and he's been improving steadily every year. Pacific Storm has been relying on his talents season after season to stay alive in the mini SBBL. In the 1st game against Raging Dragons, SYJ was hot, shooting 10-13, including one from downtown, contributing 22 pts and grabbed 17rebs showing off his post moves against Raging Dragon's C Kwek Puay Puay. In the next game against ASCI, SYJ had another efficient night, shooting 8-12, chipping in 18pts, 10rebs in just 29mins leading his team to a 30 point victory. All these spectacular efforts on the boards and offensive end got SYJ selected as the player of the week for week 3. Look out for him as he can only get better.

Week 3 averages for Seow Yeng Jian: 30mins, 20pts, , 72.0 FG% (18-25), 13.5rebs

Great 8
Player of the week goes to veteran PG Pol Sabaté of Sugar Ray

Pol Sabaté has been adding his talents to Sugar Ray, keeping the team within range of a playoff contention especially if KKTAN cannot keep up. In the first game of the week against bot team Thunder SJ, Pol Sabaté came off the bench to drop in 15pts and 5asts in 18mins of play, securing a win for Sugar Ray with a final score of 111-70. In the 2nd game against Lionheart Jaguar, Pol Sabaté erupted with 28pts and 11asts again carrying Sugar Ray to victory at home. Finally at the cup game against Kampong Pasir Ris Bombers, Pol Sabaté once again put the team on his shoulder and brought home a victory with 20pts and adding in 9 flashy assists to work the crowd up.

Week 3 averages for Pol Sabaté: 28.7min, 21pts, 50.9 FG%(26-51),8.3asts

and SPECIAL shout out going to manager of Final Fantasy XIII and his team! Good luck to wherever you will go and hope you can be back soon! Thanks for all the headaches you gave me (and all of us in league II.1 too i'm sure) when i set my lineup and defensive matches against you! Hope Lim Kim Pin and Lai Zhong Yan will be claimed by rich SG teams and trained well for the latter.

We also thank Lim Kim Pin for dominating players from SF-C, having the always smiling look and enjoying his games since he joined FFXIII. We really hope he can stay in League II.1 somehow

Cup Watch

Sorry all, due to my busy schedule the Cup Watch came a little later. So, i'll do a recap of the cup games instead of a preview for last cup game.

Lady Luck was pretty pissed off with league II.1, or somehow the Singapore Basketball Association wanted a battle royale between 6 several league II.1 teams. Either way only half of II.1 survived the last cup matches. 4 teams are now left to face the tougher cup games ahead as plenty of SBBL members are still surviving.

juntion 9 went up against Choa Chu Kang Colonels at home and it was a blowout in favour of juntion 9. 6'6" C Kok Nie Chao of juntion 9 had a huge night scoring a season high 25pts, grabbed 17 rebounds and dished off 9 assists flirting with a triple double as most junction 9 starters sat this one out. PG Li Chin Shi added in 19pts, 5asts and reserve SF Khurshid Muhammed contributed 17pts in 28mins. Besides the hot shooting, juntion 9's players showcased some great defensive plays that kept anyone in the Colonels from scoring more than 13pts. The final score Choa Chu Kang Colonels 52, juntion 9 112.

Sugar Ray facing off Singapore ranked no 2 Commpassvale United and we have to give props to Sugar Ray for not giving this game up. Week 3 player of the week, Pol Sabaté, did all he could to try to keep Sugar Ray within shooting range scoring 17pts but he had little help from the rest of the team as Compassvale United started pulling away already in the 1st quarter. Remy Wisgerhof was unstoppable, pouring in 37pts together with 6asts and PF Ljubinko Vojinovic came off the bench looking for his teammates, recording 10asts in just 18mins of play finishing the night with a double double of 11pts and 10asts. Compassvale United brought Sugar Ray back to school with a 103-51 victory.

In Shohoku statium, with legend Sakuragi Hanamichi spotted at the sidelines, the NEWBak Ku Teh Kings visted the Shohoku Backers and the Backers showed the Kings that they might have some ways to go before challanging SBBL. Daugalis Špilevskis of the Backers scored 25pts, shooting 3-5 from downtown and Shohoku Backers pulled off a quick start outscoring the Kings 33-17 in the first quarter. G Łukasz Merta had a good all around performance with 15pts, 5rebs, 4asts and 4 steals in 26mins against the opposing Kings. Recent Kings acquisation from Hong Kong, So You Xiong, lead all King's players with 21pts and 6rebs. Vitmoil Wolf ran the offense brillantly with 12asts but the 1st quarter breakdown and too many turnovers proved costly for the Kings as the Shohoku Backers won the cup game 109-93.

In the 1st league II.1 cup Battle Royale match, Pacific Storm went against rajons team in the match of the big men C Youssef Kadri from Pacific Storm and C Chung Wen Xin plus 7 foot PF Rudolf Godovnikov from rajons team. Rudolf Godovnikov bullied backup Storm PF Šerif Osmajic using a variety of post moves scoring 28pts and recording 13, yes that's right, 13 offensive rebounds, trice more than the entire team of Pacific Storm, with a total of 24rebs. Chung Wen Xin was well defended and ended quietly with 11pts and 12rebs. But it was Pacific Storm who came out on top with 5 of the 7 players who dress scoring in double digits. Youssef Kadri lead the charge with 19pts and 17rebs and Alejandro López hitting 4-8 from 3 point land ending the night with 27pts and 6 asts giving Storm the win over rajons team 105-98.

Cup Watch

cont. from prev post

The "Survivor League II.1" continues with Lionheart Jaguar visting the always bobbling arena of Bobbleheads. Whatever Bobblehead's coach said in the locker room to inspire or put fear in their team worked like a charm as Bobblehead's players came out with a huge fire compared to Lionheart Jaguar's players. Bobblehead's SF Nicola Veridiani was having a night of his life, scoring a season high 56pts, dominating and shooting jumpers over his multiple defenders on 22-34 shooting, 10-13 FT with 8rebs and 4asts. Veteran G Bill Swain also scored 26pts shooting 11-25 on the field. Jaguar's 6'7" SF Tariq Zuabi scored 23pts but fouled out after spending the majority of the night guarding or double teaming Nicola Veridiani. PF Xosé Udias had a double double of 14pts and 15rebs playing all 48mins but U21 Fan Ping Wai has a disasterious night needing 14shots(3-14) to score 14pts. Still, the monster night of Nicola Veridiani proved to be too much for Lionheart Jaguar as Bobbleheads beat the Jaguars 115-96.

And the last of the League II.1 Battle Royale, KKTAN hosted Chai Chee in TTSH for the cup game. Things started of close but it all fell apart in the 3rd quarter for Chai Chee and they could not recover. KKTAN's SG Raivis Feldblums lead all scorers with 24pts on a very accurate 9-13 shooting. PG Frederik Kionka became a shoot-first guard that night, chipping in 20pts. Chai Chee's PF Jarno Pylkkö shot 6-12 finishing the night with 17pts and 5rebs while holding KKTAN's Jonathan Tulod to 7pts, 3-15 shooting. Longtime Chai Chee guard Yiannakis Sarlis, had 16pts but shot a dismal 5-21 and giant C Pedro Cafranga added in 16pts and pulled down a huge 25rebs. Still all these efforts from Chai Chee could not prevent the 3rd quarter meltdown that led to KKTAN's victory, pushing Chai Chee out of the cup, with the final score 82-74.
