I'm with you, no way Shaq was dirty. Just big and powerful. I actually don't think Hornecek was dirty till he got to the Jazz. That whole team was dirty but hid behind their goody two shoes Utah image. Cartwright enjoyed swinging those pointy elbows at people's head.

The only thing I can recall about Cartwright was his long over-the-head shot, that looked almost like a pass. I dropped 1 of those on my nephew last weekend. His jaw hit the ground.

You should've followed it up with Bill Wennington jazz-hands:

Side note -- Was there ever a trio of centers more deserving of a cartoon T-shirt than the "Bang Gang"? (right click & "view image" to see it bigger)

Fouling a lot and being a dirty player are completely different things.

His last couple seasons he could barely move. So he was out of position a lot and thus all the fouls. That was a product of declining athleticism. I don't think you can point to foul totals to prove whether or not a player was dirty. Now if he had a lot of flagrant fouls or had a history of hurting guys, that would be one thing. But I don't remember Shaq as that type of player. And honestly dude was so big that guys flew when he hit them, it is tough to say he got away with too many calls.

Random Shaq related name drop here... I live in the same city as (and will occasionally run into) Matt Geiger with the job that I do. The first time I saw him, a younger co-worker asked who he was and the first thing I could think of to say was that he was the guy who hit Shaq in the back of the head with the ball from halfway across the court.

I'll try to ask him about it the next time I get a chance.
