I'd be in favor of the removal of "blank lineups" but we really do need some different substitution patterns to take it's place. Something like a slider to indicate the minutes share given to backup-starter and an ability to set a working rotation among multiple spots (thinking 3 bigs rotating equally among PF/C).

The blank lineup has certainly pissed me off.

A team with 7 players having guys sub out at various different times is certainly annoying. This really makes it hard to plan against a team doing that.

The other issues is that the players are "fresher" in the 4th. In a close game this can really suck for the traditionalist.

It also annoys me that it is easier to manage gameshape with blank lineups than it is with setting the depth chart. Good riddance.

So I think this will be a good change overall.

We may or may not agree on the legality of the "feature/loophole", but the chosen path for the game is to try and fix that. This is not the intention of this thread as the decision has already been made. This thread should be used for reports on the effectiveness of the new code.

However, looks like we're not that close to a solution since today we had an issue with the new game engine which delayed training and had to replace it with the old version, which basically means that BL prevention is postponed till next week.

If you are getting rid of the blank lineup, you need to do something about high stamina players. It's very hard to manage minutes for GS for these players. I should be able to start a player twice in a week and not have to worry about him getting 75-80+ minutes and ruining his game shape. It basically punishing a guy for being in too good of athletic conditioning.

I have mever played BL in a real game.
I have played it once or twice in a PL.
I think that BL are the easy way out and
I want to win in this game through the work.
But, on the other hand, players should have different GS levels.

We will consider it, I know it's not ideal as it is.

The reason blank lineups work better is because "let coach decide" does a poor job of substituting players when you fill the depth chart. With a blank lineup, the coach constantly looks for the best lineup, leading to more substitutions and, presumably, a more rested group of players on the floor.

Blank lineups are not a way out, they are a way to permit you coach to make the most out of your team. For whatever reason, the coach makes more intelligent decisions in a blank lineup situation. Why you would want to get rid of the most intelligent coaching method is beyond me.

So, how does this works, exactly? I mean, we could use more details.

This is what I assume: You need to set your starting lineup, and you can leave substitutions blank with Let coach decide. For example, if you have 5 good starters and 2-3 extra good players. This is the way good teams are currently constructed. Will it work under the new game engine?

I will happily test the thing ... but ... do I put starters in and nothing else? Do I put 1, 2 or 3 players in and nothing else? Do I pick the 12 players and nothing else? Do I fill in starter, backup and reserve for one position and nothing else?

Is there an actual, comprehensive, REALISTIC* explanation of this matter anywhere? It would be useful to help shape the conversation constructively and help us know how to test it.
