Please remember, if we win the month, we are not eligible to participate in active voting for 12 months.

PROs of winning: We get a special acknowledgment of our having been voted the best for the month.

CONs of winning: Note, this acknowledgment is NOT on the front page of the site. Being in the top 5 without winning the month give us front page exposure on the MPOGD.com site.

Either way, our presence is seen, just depends on which you determine is more valuable to the game.

Not sure exactly what you mean. If we win the month we get front page exposure as the winner from last month. Infantry won last month, and thier link was on top of the top 5 for all of Feb. If we win this month, and it looks like we will, Buzzerbeater will be bolded on top of the top 5 for all of March.

Yes, for all of March. Then, for the next 11 months, we will get no front page exposure, we will be relegated to an off page.

In another game I play where we've managed to win the MPOGD.com game of the month twice in the last 4 or 5 years, we saw an influx of members immediately after the win, but in those month in which we were not eligible to be voted upon, our number growth was down. When we made a consistent effort to remain in the 2 through 5 spot, our growth was marginally up from the mean.

In the end, it is just something to be considered. Since this is an 'experiment' for the site. If we win, we will get top billing for 31 days. Then we will be hard to find on the site for 11 more months. We won't be able to 'do it again' for 1 year. So the experiment will not hold as much value in exposure, in my experience.

I see what you are saying, and perhaps you are correct about the overall numbers, but it is hard and possibly a bit demoralizing to those participating to aim for 2nd. When I first got my BB team last Nov I immediately told several friends about it and 3 of them now have teams. Sometimes a big push can cause a rapid advancement for an extended time, perhaps for several months. No way to be sure without extended study.

I do know that at least hundreds of current users got an increased sense of involvement in something other than just thier team, but in the community. Some pride comes with the victory for those who took the time to participate, and it is fun to see a few people get excited over something that helps the whole. Nice sense of community, imo.

Completely true. I won't argue those point at all with you.

As site admin for the other game (which is much smaller in overall users, and currently not as appealing as BB), I just wanted to share my experience with the growth and reminding people about the effects of winning MPOGD. Especially when it is being considered an experiment. It can help interpret the results 3 months from now and also help whomever organizing future marketing campaigns through similar sites. :D
