Thx a lot perpete

If i try to do the math :
- there are 16 DIII leagues, so we need 256 (16*16) teams to promote
- there are currently 1161 utopists, which means 73 DIV leagues with human beings.
- this means an average of 3,5 promotion per DIV league.
- The league champion promotes, which leaves on average 2,5 promotions per DIV league
- so both conference leaders are sure to promote (in case they are not league champions)
- then it becomes complicated, depending on who is league champion (conference leader or not) : for instance, if all league champions are also conference leader then 1,5 per league (75%) of conference n°2 should promote. If no league champion is also league leader, only 0,5 per league (25%) of conference n°2 will promote.

So basically, you have to target the n°1 spot of your conference. Conference n°2 have a chance to promote, but no certainty. No way for Conference n°3 and after if they are not league champion. Wont be that easy after all ! Of course it all depends on the number of leagues at the end of the season

Am I right ?

Did i get it properly in the news given today by Marin that the conference rank wont actually be taken into account and that the promotion criteria are simply :
- the league champion
- then Win/Losses ratio accross all leagues

Is it right ? It means that teams iin very competitive leagues have a lower chace to promote...

If this is right, it would be great to have a ranking of all utopian teams implemented based on the win/losses in order to get a view of ones probability to promote or not.

Thx in advance

I was sure that it already worked like that in other countries.

You never saw me say how it works ? I say quite often though.

In every country, it's conference ranking first, then W/L ratio, then point-average.

For Utopia, it's not clear yet.

I did. But, maybe because I found it stupid that a 19-3 third placed team would not be promoted over a 14-8 second placed one, I always persuaded myself that you might be wrong

OK, I guess it's time we clear this up. Promotion will work like this:
1. Conference champions (teams that reach the league finals) automatically promote (circa 80 leagues * 2 = 160 teams)
2. this leaves 256 - circa 160 = circa 96 spots to be filled by these criteria (in order)
- conference rank
- wins
- forfeits
- point difference
- points made

This means, in practice, that a the top ranked, non-conference champion teams are all mixed up together and the top ranked ones will be promoted. This, of course, means that some leagues may have only 2 promoting teams, other ones may have 4 or 5 or even more promoting teams!

However, we still reserve the right to change this if we think of a better promotion strategy, but basically this is the option which is probably going to be used.

Seems a good solution to sen.
