I guess Utopia was a bad idea from the start...
Well, it turns out that way. The BB's didn't listen to the discussion of the alternatives before they did it; they had their minds made up to do it and the "discussion" was just window dressing.

People are definitely not CHOOSING to compete right now, rather choosing over and over again not to try (or they are really jsut that stupid...)
That isn't stupid, that is recognition of how the game is set up. You have to sacrifice being maximally competitive to train, and since training is king, voila!

"Far from everyone wants to go all in to win" is because winning isn't what this game is about, unlike actual competitive basketball or any other sporting event. You have put your finger on the problem without even realizing it.

I wish this game DID allow different ways of competing, with equal probabilities of winning based on the skill with which the manager pursues his approach. Wouldn't that be great?!?!

And wait a minute ... "try to win at all times" ... hmmm, that sounds a lot like a SPORTS SIM, where sim sports teams simulate real life. You know, real life, where teams "try to win at all times." Can that just be a coincidence???
