Not 100% sure if you are only referring to the one game or overall ('always shooting pretty bad' = False = 0.455 versus 0.456 avg fg %) but for that specific game - i'd consider the effect of tactic on shoot selection and how the team as a whole plays in (passing, spacing, creating good shoots). Going 0/8 on 3pt is shaq-bad so either he was just taking awfully bad shoots or ending up chucking a desperation shoot.

Add some passing to that second team and you're bound to see improvement.

Backyard Brawlers
Try to play patient when your player will be in gameshape 9.. You will see more scoring from him..

Im not referring to only one game , i just put some examples http://www.buzzerbeater.com/match/94741399/boxscore.aspx like this game opponent put 2/3 zone he shots 9/1 3pointers. And he was defended by very bad player. http://www.buzzerbeater.com/match/94743755/boxscore.aspx this game the opponent is better but still.. And Lewis is like 1 player team. He almost every time is guarded by best defender of opponents team. And i had put on him last season 19 defense player still he played amazing http://www.buzzerbeater.com/match/94366767/boxscore.aspx And his 0.455 procents are all consistent almost every game he shoots this kind of percentage.
