BB-Forrest has described the game engine as giving players a series of looks at the basket, and either deciding to shoot or pass off. As the shot clock runs down, a player might take a shot that he would have passed up earlier. The offensive tactics also help determine whether a particular shot is taken or not. If you are using look inside, players will be more likely to not shoot a 3 pointer, but more likely to try an inside shot.

My understanding is that offensive flow controls somewhat how good the looks are, and that the primary skill is passing. That is, passing not only means accurate passes, but effective passes, such as getting it to the open man.

In my experience, i could be wrong, but offensive flow is about as important as DMI. I just played a game, shot over 50% and scored 133 pts and got an awful Off flow rating. Sure i didn't get many assists but my turn overs were low and i shot the lights out.

Also, the guy i played against got 101 pts, shot under 40% and got an Off Flow rating of inept.

My adivce, pretend off flow rating isn't there.

And maybe there an different in the defence off both teams, so you get already good oppurtunities because your opponent don't defend.

From the Rules:

Offensive Flow (how well the offense produces assists, avoids turnovers): point guard weighted very heavily, shooting guard weighted medium, small forward weighted medium.

Any ideas about how important offensive flow actually is?

That's not really the best way of looking at it. Offensive flow itself is a reflection of the passing/handling skills, weighted based on which position the player is in. But if you have, say, two guards out there with very high passing/handling skills, you'll have great offensive flow, but if you dump it in to a 3C team and all three bigs have atrocious handling and passing, they'll still turn it over a lot. Likewise, if you have good passing and handling throughout the roster without having exceptional values on the guards, the OF will be lower but you'll likely be more effective than the rating might otherwise indicate.

The long and short of it is that OF is a measurement of the skills used, not something that the engine itself would look at to calculate play results. The better way of looking at it is "how important is passing and handling, for each position?"

Absolutely stunning answer, thank you!

I guess I need to change my question... How good is it to get high OF ratings? I guess that translates into is PA and HA really good to have on your guards, particularly your PG.

Obvious answer is yes...

Now I'm sure. If you bet in the inside attack, you MUST have a good Offensive Flow.
