You only get scouting reports at the end of the season just before the draft. Any spending now goes on to next season's scouting - actually it is just a count of how many scouting reports to generate.

There have been various suggestions that scouting be more of an ongoing visible process, but the BB are concerned that there would be the possibility of too much sharing of information.

When I was in D.IV, I only spent $5K or $10K per week. You will find that there is a lot of turnover in D.IV, and so there will be several teams that won't change their draft list. And the information is vague enough, and incomplete that you don't have to really worry about not knowing about every player.

OK so spending 40k right now to prepare for this season's draft is a total waste of money. That is VERY VERY good to know. Thank you for your posts.

For this season, yes.

For next season, definitely not.

For a team in D.IV that is just starting, I don't think $40K per week for scouting is a good investment. It is not a total waste. But perhaps, not wise.

I may have not been as clear as I'd like - I was speaking in literal terms, not giving advice. I probably wouldn't spend that either, in my own opinion.

I doubt that spending $40,000 to get 4 scouting reports will put you in that much better shape than spending $20,000 for 3, or even $10,000 for 2. It might get you a little more information, but you can't keep other teams from getting information.

If you can get a decent 3rd RD pick it might be worth it was my comment.

My thought would be that the most economical is either $10K for 2 looks OR $5K for one. The $10K is probably doable for most of us Div IV and III teams.
