I believe on a technical foul involved with another foul, the regular foul shots are given and then possession as well.

On a T without a foul it's one shot and possession.

My take is that what the game calls a technical foul is more like an intentional or breakaway foul in the NBA -- FTs plus possession. In real basketball terms, I thought that all techs that weren't double resulted in 1 free throw for the opposing team.

I am a Refferee in Holland, and in our country is the following rule, so as in the NBA.

When you make a Personal foul (P), you gets a"P"on the sheet, the opposite team get 2 free throws and out of bounds for your team when the last shot is in the basket.
When a you make a Technical Foul (T), you get a "T" on the sheet, the opposite team get 2 free throws and out of bounds in all cases.

When

When a player make a T, this foul is counting with the team fouls.
When a coach, asist coach or a player on the bench make a T, this foul is not countig with the team fouls.

What you said is definitely not as in the NBA. Here are the NBA's rules on technicals: (http://www.nba.com/analysis/rules_12.html?nav=ArticleList)

Here's the key point for this discussion, from 12, A, V:

n. A free throw attempt is awarded when one technical foul is assessed.

That's what happens in the NBA (there are a few exceptions... nitpickers, please read the whole section). That is, one free throw, no change in possession.
