with fast pace the ball is in your position shorter a time each attack. there is less handling and less passes, and your players will shoot earlier.
This means that there is less chance to lose the ball.
If you however have good handling and passing skills you can afford to take more time to dribble and pass the ball untul you found the right shooter to pull off qulitatively better shots. There is more handling and passing, but due to the fact your players are good at it they won't give up the ball easy.
If you come closer to the shotclock ending however, with slow pace, if they haven't reached their good shot yet, they tend to get nervous and shoot anyway, which result in a qualitatively less good shot.
