The name is too long to fit in the box. For some reason, when this happens it for some reason gets moved to a second line, and is almost completely invisible -- that is, it's still there, only we just see the top of the letters. Clearing cache will not fix this.

Maybe this happens just with some browsers or screen resolutions. But it is definitely something that needs to be fixed on the coding side.

What do you mean by that, exactly? If the site as designed is rendering its content in a way that makes that content unreadable on a typical browser in a typical configuration (I'm having the same problem in FF 3 with a large window), then I would argue that is in fact something "that needs to be fixed on the coding side". Maybe we disagree on what "the coding side" means.

He also said it needs to be fixed on the coding side - or am I lost?

Right, that's what I said.

The problem here is that the site design doesn't really know how to handle long names of just about anything effectively. I've seen a similar problem with extra long team names as well -- the boxes designed to show player/team names seem to have a fixed vertical size of 1 line. However, there are occasionally names that are longer than that, so the text overflows to a second line and thus is not visible.

In the case that's posted in this thread it's the entire player name that's on a second line, so it appears as if the player has no name. However, if you look closely, you can see the top of the letters in the player box.
