Threads that don't belong in the Global forum get locked precisely so that people don't chime in on something that should be discussed some place else, or not discussed at all.

yeah i get that part but why not just move it to the proper forum then. it is annoying to come onto the forum and see a bunch of topics locked. a part of internet games is the socialization you get from them. just simply locking topics instead of moving them to the proper forum seems to be a big issue that is ignored by the powers that be. a more user friendly forum may help get more people into the game

We currently have no functionality which allows us to move threads around the forums. And I find that most users in our forums are quite friendly and helpful.

damn i figured that was a regular in forums for games. most users are helpful in the forums but we do get a ton of locked topics because they are placed in the wrong section. i guess the forum need a good overhaul, becuase it is rather dull

Don't expect an overhaul in which users will be allowed whatever they wish all over the place. The different sections of the forums exist for a reason.

Perhaps a user has posted in the first forum he found. If the topic get's moved to another forum, he might not find it right away, thus can not read the answers and does not understand what happened. When the topic get's locked, it urges the user to find the forum mentioned in the thread.

What i've also seen is that topics in the help forum get locked when a question has been answered. Usually, on other fora, the original poster decides when the question is answered or not and whether the thread should be locked. At least let the OP show his gratitude before locking the thread. I sometimes see that the GM decides out of the blue that the topic should be locked just because he/she believes the question of the OP is answered without letting the OP confirm it. It's kinda rude in my opinion.

Very few topics in Help (that are actual help topics) get locked at all, unless there is another active thread on the same issue.

I'd agree with Riceball and Vanilla Gorilla on this one.

Being a bit of a noob, I'd appreciate it greatly if I was not simply informed that I'd posted in the wrong thread with a sentence such as "Locked due to postage in wrong forum", but also re-directed to the correct one, rather than being left feeling like a little boy with a spanked behind.

I had no idea there was a forum for bugs (again my nubism may well astound you), and so when the game on Tues seemed to disappear, I posted on the general board (one of only three forums I was aware I had access to) hoping for some advice.
I was told that the subject was already being discussed in the correct forum, which is fair enough, but before I could ask how I find my way to that particular topic, the thread was locked without any opportunity to request nor receive help on the matter.

Now I can appreciate that it's a fairly thankless task cleaning and moderating forums, but c'mon GM's, it's not that hard to be courteous and helpful to those more clueless than you is it? Share the knowledge, you never know, some of us noobs might actually learn something one day... ;)

You also get some threads which just fritter away and from the answer given you are still unsure whether you are right or wrong.

Sorry that i've passed the stage where I don't need to ask if I train my guard at PG for 24mins and SG for 24 mins will he get training.

(97474.1)

I appreciate the prompt answer but I am still uncertain whether the training around the world is completed for all countries at the same time.

I don't think it is (i know its all done on Friday)....but in order for my suggestion to be a valid point or not it is vital to know. Japan updates are at local time 16.40.

We of course won't receive answers for everything we ask but this thread I've been waiting politely on.. admittedly it only effects a very few people in buzzerbeater but it effects them none-the-less.
