Sorry about the mistakes and don't take anything I say as gospel. They are just some thoughts I have working in my head at the moment.
As I said, some people think that the only thing that impacts fouling is their hidden physicality (and also that of the match-up that they're facing). I think there are some others that clearly impact (home court, inside play) but the rest is just a guess.
I also have noticed that more fouls are called on missed shots than anything else. It is very rare to see a foul called on a shot that is made. So if your opponent is missing a lot of shots, your chances to foul may be higher (this is just a theory that I'm working on and may be completely unfounded, though).
