Minimal fix to the training engine.


There really aren't any minimal fixes in BuzzerBeater.


I hope there is a wide adoptions of tables and parameters, not everything cabled inside the source code

In training, I guess the algorithm should:
- check which is the training
- initiate a list of weights: position [0] is primary, then 100%, others have weight (you can make your list as long as you want, from no secondary -case of FT training- to N)
- take a player
- check played minutes in appropriate role against training
- apply calculation on primary skill, weight 100% * minutes/48:
- cycle for i:=1 to N (number of secondaries), re-applying calculation

Effort to fix: add one secondary to JS training.

May be something more, not too much.

the fix isn't minimal in the effect for the game, if you don't want to count with a hidden ft value which is on the born + trained with FT value.

because with changes you always hit someone in the nuts, who didn't expect them and maybe trained FT a lot etc.

Even if BB makes more dramastic changes in past, but i think with such a system ft training becomes a bit useless ...

not every buzzerbeater team is like the NBA, there are so many more players in buzzerbeater than the NBA you are going to see crazy things like this, but rather than insist that everything look "average" try to look at it with some creative glasses and humor, it will make the game much more enjoyable. Or from an analytical point of view, it seems to me that even a small amount of FT training would improve things dramatically for this player, and if you are doing a proper good cost/benefit analysis, you will train him, make more FTs, win more games, etc... which is i think the point of being skilled at the game.

Do you think he was serious?

Correct. I meant that the fix was minimal in effort to be implemented.

In terms of effect: the fix would impact as secondary your guards trained in JS. You could reasonably expect one step each 3-4 JS trainings, not quite a lot! And that would not impact on big ugly man (Shaq and neighbours), in this case too reflecting perfectly the real world. Yes, you could rely on this secondary training, but on few players only!

So, as I can have a PF with poor JS, I can have a C with atrocious in FT. My choice. Or I can simply spend ASG and post season sessions to train FT for all my guys. My choice too, as training resistance, or training one or two (or even three) positions at a time. I call it flexibility in your strategy, exactly what you can expect from this game.

To me it's much worse to be unable to train my SF unless training 3 guys at a time, or shifting in a wrong position!

This is my favorite quote of the conversation. After all, seeing my players skills called atrocious, awful, and inept at this level helps me see the humor. I defer to those who actually made statistical analysis to explain that. It has a diminishing level of returns similar to all functions of BB. All the same, I'd love to see note that my player succeeded despite collosal incompetence, similar to pulling a Homer Simpson. I'd love to see a player receive a pass he wasn't expecting, catch the rebound off his head, and throw an underhand half court three pointer to win the game, or even lose it by missing.
It looks only disappointing that my coach can't pull a Larry Bird and have all players shooting 80% FT. In spite, a few players have shot 6 of 7 in one isolated game.

The system is good the way it is. Just train FTs every once in a while or buy players who already have the skill. Nothing more complicated than that.

He didn't say it was a perfect system. He said, "The system is good the way it is." Which I don't think means perfect. In fact I think that pretty much means acceptable, which is what you would say it is. Hmmm...


And certainly stamina should have an effect on FT shooting. It does in real life.
