I don't like the "bad luck" explanations because, well, they doesn't point out to anything we as managers can do or understand.

I think it was BB-Marin who said some things depend on luck, we can't change that with our choices and it resembles real life, where I agree. I guess we are too accustomed that various computer games let us master them and nothing depends on luck there.
But in real life, you just don't know why Lamar Odom is underperforming with Mavericks or what goes through Gordon's head now in Hornets...or how the hell is Kobe shooting 32 pts/game since he is wearing mask. Or how did the Heat blow a giant lead in last five minutes of a finals game against Dallas.

i think Lamar Odom bad stretch could be explained, since the strike and his personal problems really hurt him. With just bad luck, it won't be so many games.

But bad luck often comes into play during a basketball game, Nash/nowe are 90% free throw shooter which doesn't mean that they hit every time 9 free throw when they get 10, they will often hit 10 and sometimes just 6 or 7 ... And this count for every shot the player takes(even when the real shoting percentage is nearly impossible to define). And if you have lot of bad luck in a game you loose, with luck you can beat stronger opponents.

If there weren't luck in this game, good and bad, it would be boring as hell.

I'm not trying to deny the, sometimes, quite strong random effect on buzzerbeater. Just pointing out that "bad luck" should be the last explanation to be offered, because if you always blame the random factor, there is no room for learning.

Most of the time I see the random factor affecting a few parts of the analisys but here, it seems to be omnipresent in almost every category. When that happens, you have two posible choices: A) Really strong random effect B) You are missing something.

Just trying to think if B is plausible or not.

Does this mean inside shot is a useless skill? Having a big man who commands a double team is one of the keys to getting open jump shots. Having a big man who can finish at the rim means that if one of your guards penetrates, the help defender will be that much slower because he has to worry about the pass as well. Obviously rebounding and defense matter, but I'm talking about offense here since that's the way the question was posed, and the author seems to pretty clearly realize that on defense an inside presence is important.

I think lack of inside power is the biggest problem both for this game and (18624)

Look at this game (18407), similar ratings except Inside Scoring, different result totally.

I think we still don't know enough about GE and when we encounter something we can't explain, we blame it on luck, while it could be your PG didn't have enough HA, or the player guarding him had good SB...and you don't see this in match ratings.

Looks like you do need outside players with more that OD and PA even if you play all inside.

passing is aways important then, but in this game i would say the winning team was very lucky just look at the matchup rating, the average scoring was worse and the loosing team get the ball most likely quite efficient to there best thread at C.
