Many thanks to zander for his bbmail after what must have been a painful loss. We've now butted heads in four playoffs in a row and this was, for me, the best game of them all. Certainly one of my all time top games.

Couldn't watch the first quarter as I was busy. When I did find time I had the good news of the lead but the bad news that my highest tsp player had only played three minutes before being injured. Since I'd started as an underdog that didn't exactly fill me with hope.

Had to go out just after the start of the fourth quarter so I missed the rest of the game. A Dogs had just pulled level and when they've done that in the past they've gone on to win. Wasn't to be this time and I'll be honest, I really enjoyed this one. I've nothing but respect for zander but again being honest I didn't think we'd win. I think he has four guys paid more than my highest salaried player and he doesn't buy mugs.

Home advantage really made the difference.

Is it too much to say it was a night of upsets? I don't think so. Even at home I was an underdog and Tide of Fire are always big favourites in games that matter.

What a game!

In side news it looks like both me and Elmacca are going to promote in Utopia. I think we are ranked #3 and #4 among conference winners, we play #1 and #2 in the finals and there are 2 bot promotions in Utopia instead of 1. So we either go through as champions or with best record of non champions.

In England I'm disappointed I lost close games with key injuries or OT, I would have liked my chances in the playoffs even with the 4th seed.

Hell of a game Gully, I led by as many as 7 in overtime only to throw it away!

We’ve certainly had some good battles over the last few seasons but it’ll be the last, for a while anyway. I’ve had to sacrifice training for my recent successes and I’m going to be turning my attentions to that for now. So you’ll be seeing all my mugs on the transfer list very shortly.

Good luck in the final and also to Bergkamp, may the best team win!

Two really good / close games yesterday. Well good on the blue side only if you like grindey defence first bball (which it turns out I do)

I definitely agree that both underdogs won, it took me more effort and a correction prediction to squeeze a win. That and my pick of offense/defence matchups working in my favour (I worried when Orec came in for Rada and he hit his first few shots. Alburger against a more outside focused player could've been painful...) As if I actually got the 4th Q comeback for once! That usually happens the other way...Fair bit of luck maybe - Rada's only foul out of the season. Vecx's 2nd worse offensive points total this season a mix of luck and skill?

Wonder what the thinking was with not crunching, unless playing clearly the 4th best team I'd have crunched then counted on the home advantage in the finals...Complacency? Not enough desire to win? Just too nice so thought he'd give me a chance? :D

Can't quite believe it. Being in the finals is gonna be weird. Now I'm at home plus the salary in my favour I feel I've gotta be favourite, but I'm not confident, and I dislike the pressure that's now on me tbh, ha.

Good luck Gully. I vaguely remember O'Sullivan and The Greek's skills, but this is where I wish I'd actually saved them down...

Good luck mate. I think most people could work out Osullivan and Soti's skills; their major strengths at least. They've both gone up anyway since I told you ;)

I don't really like answering for Vecx but its fairly standard for a home team to put in less effort. You're supposed to be the better team and you're at home. Its a risk but a calculated one.

Not to mention you've already beaten me twice this season.

While it's a reasonable strategy to Playoff normal in the conference final with HCA, it's always risky to cede the momentum advantage in the 4th quarter if the game is close. I'm pretty sure teams trying harder more than compensate for home court advantage in 4th quarter playoff games but I could be imagining it. There's been several upsets over the years of that variety.

Also, resting when you have HCA in the finals is, I think, slightly less valid than if you aren''t likely too - as you can always TIE the second finals game. While I think the Wasps and A Dogs are teams for Vecx to be wary of, A dogs especially, I still think he'd be a strong favourite in a three game series with HCA..

Well done Bergkamp, we might make an NT manager of you yet!

Best of luck to both in the finals

Yeah, we're both up to Heaven in Utopia although it looks like we'll both bot promote... straight up from tier III for me.
I used up my enthusiasm getting that 4th spot in week 22 thinking that would be enough, although you had me worried there for a while.
It'll be my second trip to the Utopia top flight although the first one was a bit weird as one team dominated (they won B3 that season as well) and most of the others weren't trying terribly hard so I ended up in the conference finals kind of by default. Reality and relegation kicked in the following season after a couple of key injuries early on. Still, looking forward to my (nearly) all-Utopia team having another crack next season. I'm not used to this whole promotion/relegation/relegation/promotion/promotion thing, letting alone it working out as planned

Sure, but when it's close you sacrifice a bit of Enth just in case, especially if you have HCA in the Finals. What's the worse thing that can happen? If you were wrong and the game was not close, then you probably get some garbage time and better minutes ahead of the last training update of the season. You don't want to end with 2 #4 seed in the finals just because the teams above them tried to save Enth, while they crunched every playoff game!

My money was on you crunching your semifinal and even more on A Dogs doing so, so I would have definitely crunched on the other side. At any rate, I am also a specialist in copying a previous lineup and forgetting to change GDP, Enth and other things (like removing backups which invariably mess up minutes for training), so that's also a possibility here.

Btw, the 58 total fouls and 78 FTs in the conference final must be a fairly high total even for you.

My starting PF fouled out early for the first time ever for me, that lost me the game, but that is what happens in BB. It adds to the spice and makes it possible for anyone to win. Happy to see our current finalists thrash it out and it makes a change to be honest!

I did think it was obvious what me and zander would do, as I think we both had to do it. I had the better record, he had the better team, but I didn't particularly want to imply criticism of Vecx.

Lol, I tend to believe it is. Buzzer manager doesn't list fouls in the team records so I can't be sure, but I can't remember managing to hit 30 fouls and I do usually win that matchup so 58 does seem like my "best" ever.
