Upon closer investigation, it appears that I've played the other 2 promotees from D3 a couple times. It seems I know how my team stacks up against them. I think they will finish 4th and 5th. It also appears that the other new team is from the NBBA. So with the 2 good teams, we already have 5 spots filled.

Piss poor is a bit harsh. I prefer substandard. I consider myself the 8th team in conference in personnel. Doing everything the same as everyone else just leads to demotion. I've thought everything out and weighed options. And if it all fails? I finish 8th where I would have with a normal Tie-Tie-Tie-Tie start.

First game I've CT'd in over a season.

The problem with that mentality is that you're putting yourself at a disadvantage for the next couple of games. I haven't checked your schedule, but you're nearly certain to lose on Tuesday with half the enthusiasm of your opponent. Everyone in the league looks to have a cake 1st round Cup game, so you'll likely still have an enthusiasm disadvantage come next Saturday.

Congrats on your first dII win, but at what price?

I don't think its necessarily a terrible strategy. Sure he probably loses the next game (but he probably would have anyway), but he has two TIEs to get back into decent form, plus he probably would have lost today had he not gone all out. If you promote too early (which he may have done), you gotta make some interesting managerial decisions.

And a big thanks to TUG for saying my team "decisively blew" last season. Great stuff. Appreciate it.

Not that I necessarily agree with it, if he's going to pull a CT, first game is the best bet. He'll lose the least amount of enthusiasm possible, and come Tuesday, his enthusiasm should be fairly close to 5 again, probably a 4 I'd say, with his opponent who might have TiE will have his enthusiasm drop at least 1. It is 2 days off, so assuming he'd gaim 1 per day.. not sure, can't remember the last time I was below 5 enthusiasm. So the difference won't be as huge.

So I wouldn't call it a horrible decision at all, just not one I'd make. But it's been a while since I felt like I'd have trouble staying up.

Actually, I think I might get demoted this season, but then again I'm a pessimist being from Cleveland. Our sports teams are always doomed.

He didn't mention you by name. I thought he was talking about my club.

I can tell you from experience, he won't be anywhere close to 5 again by Tuesday. He'll be in the mid-to-high 3 range.

That said, I've done the "welcome to the season" CT 3 times in my team's history. The first two times I was convinced before I did it that my team would at least break even on it, from how my schedule was set. After the third time, I've become convinced that it's a generally bad idea. *shrug* Guess we'll see how it works for him.

I was pretty close to doing the same thing. I announced an auto-tie before the schedule came out, then found out I was playing that very team at home in game one, with an easy cup match and thought I could steal a win. I decided against it, obviously. I don't think there is any team on my half that I can beat on the road, so I will most likely settle in 8th. I need to get lucky at home and hope to steal a few road games, possibly when teams make cup runs and throw a game against me. :) If I end up under-performing early, I will need the enthusiasm for the cup if I decide to throw the season....

Congrats on the election victory.

I'd be interested to see what the vote count looked like.

Nevermind. 66 votes in a country of 3000+. Not even 100 people voted.

the failure by the bb's and gm's to even attempt to make the forums a worthwhile social place is disheartening. if anything, for reasons you've outlined elsewhere daryk, its conducive to NOT use the forums here. (instant logouts, not seeing when there are new posts, awkward menu etc)

as a result i dont think most people read the forums easily. i say it also contributes to the very high number of people who playf or a week then quit

i know why some of the things are they way they are, and i get the short term cost savings, i just think its a poor business model.

as an aside, it is why i will probably never win an election, because of the few people that do vote, i offended just about everyone in the juice-cabal, by having the temerity to point out that a top 3-4 userbase should really do better than the quarters, or round of 16 or worse.

interestingly though, i never stooped to their level. there were a fair # of things i could have been within my rights to say, but chose not to.

ps: congrats jelme... please dont suck as much as our last u21 coach. i dont think you will. you arent afraid to try things, you are open in your approach to learning the game, and you have my support for whatever you need.
