Anyone want player #1?

Based on the current school of thought, no. Player #1 is clearly the least desireable.

However if we're going to think outside the box for a minute here, that thought being why are all the top teams in BB all playing and succeding with LI offense, then maybe it's these same undertrained SB skills that have helped this become the case?

I don't know if this school of thought is correct but I do think it's worth exploring and discussing. Maybe player #1 is exactly what you need to beat the LI offense and should be considered the most desirable player in your list, only we've all been convinced/brainwashed that the opposite is true? Maybe. ;)

I agree, maybe :) I'm beginning to become convinced that somewhere along the line, someone threw us off on purpose. Conspiracy theory... :)

Player one
All secondaries respectable, all primaries (IS, ID, RE and SB) wondrous.
Salary $114,184.

Player two
All secondaries respectable, all primaries except SB (IS, ID and RE) wondrous, SB atrocious.
Salary $52,292.

Player three
All secondaries respectable, all primaries except SB (IS, ID and RE) prodigious, SB atrocious.
Salary $108,668.

I don't think you have shown that player one is better in any way or that shot blocking is more cost effective, just cheaper. I also think your players with atrocious RE and ID are also horrible but you make an excellent point about a player I will call player four.

Player four
All secondaries respectable, all primaries except IS (SB, ID and RE) wondrous, IS atrocious.
Salary $21, 873.

Now that is a player a lot of teams would kill to have. We will ignore that it is impossible because of secondaries. If you are a purely outside based team how good would he be as a backup big men giving you critical minutes?

It is just the problem with the way big men have their salaries calculated.

Perfect outside offense, inside defence big man?
113 771 $/week

11 12
7 7
20 20
1 19
19 19

DR and PA so high cause they dont cost anything in salary. JS, JR, OD, HN maxed so that he wont turn into a small forward. Still pretty easily affordable for league 1 and/or 2 teams.

I am just echoing what someone else said earlier but the problem with SB isn't that it isn't a good skill, it is that the salary formula punished you for having it.

Compate thses three players and tell me which you would rather have.

I would think that player two was trivially worse than player one at less than half the cost. It's a no brainer. As for player three, wow, that would be a fantastic big man for the cost. I guess I would like better secondaries because of how cost effective they are but overall he would be brilliant.

Anyone want player #1?

I can give you prove of the other way around:

here is my PF
http://www.buzzerbeater.com/player/8050964/overview.aspx

i wont go into detail in terms of skills cause I know Soulhunter is crouching around somewhere. But he has pretty good SB, is the best Blocker of the league in the last 4 seasons. look at his ratings, usually the best in the league on season scale.

I know he can pretty much compete with the national PF, which he happened to play a couple of times during his career
http://www.buzzerbeater.com/player/6742609/overview.aspx

his salary is 160k higher than that of my player, the quality gap is fairly little. Although not knowing for sure, I suspect the quality of my player concerning the ratings due to a advantage in shotblocking.

There are other big men in my league with a comparable salary, but not with comparable ratings. this dude here is full 3,4 rating points behind while having the exact same salary:
http://www.buzzerbeater.com/player/9849010/overview.aspx

So, SB might not be something that pushes special stats enormously, but it pushes everything else and probably gives you a bonus on team defense, at least inside. But thats just my personal view.

Well, I didn't think their was any arguement that player #1 is better than player #2, because he is, and by a landslide, player #2 is unuseable in a zone defense(and really on defense in general in my opinion).

#1 isn't more cost effective, but that is as you said that is a product of how Big men's salary are calculated, to have a reasonable salary it is in your best interest to have one skill that is way behind the others. In most cases I would prefer to have that lagging skill be IS, if you let SB lag then there isn't a ton of point in bothering to train that ID up anyways.

True, but look at this (174881.1). I came across with this by chance when browsing forums. Especially the part : "SB- dont train" and "low SB will be accepted, high SB is (just) bonus. Advise for all managers who train players for USA NTs. I dont, however, think that you're the only country advising people like that, propably most countries' NT-managers still say that. I'm pretty sure Finland's too (which is something Im gonna talk about in the next Nt-election).
My point is that very few managers in BB world yet "believe in shotblocking" so to say. Since there seems to be many of us discussing in this thread who do believe, maybe opening a thread for the matter in national forums wouldnt be a bad idea if you're interested in making a difference...

Well, different communities often try / follow different paths. IIRC Italian NT tried to get along without high Driving Skills for some time, as far as I know without any real success. Maybe some NT coaches (Josef, Crazy?) can give us some insight in the strategies of the past there?

Yeah, those make me sad:(, they need to be updated in my opinion and I've changed the advice I give to all of my own trainers, and hopefully we will see it pay off in a couple of seasons.
