The offseason PO/PD could be much simpler if all teams were involved :

PO same as right now

PD 5 vs 8 - 6 vs 7 no inter conf match best of 3.

It means the #5 can be relegated.

For the financial part there is a lot of ways to do something good for all teams and keep the equity.

The weakness of the suggestion is :

- tank all season
- 5th battles hard for a PO spot
- buy team of superstars before PD with the cash saved
- crush 5th
- stay up and get 1st draft pick

Yeah. I think this change would only make sense if it goes hand in hand with inventing a draft lottery instead of auto-assigning the first pick to the team finishing last.

You might aswell change the format as following:

playdowns:

5th vs 6th (interdiv, crossover)

winners stay in (automatically leads to "one week more salaries btw)

and then losers of 5th vs 6th plays a three game series against the 7th of the (crossover to 5th placed) group

so 5th places still can relegate, 8th places are down nevertheless, and you have "solved" several problems at once (and 7th place is a bad spot to count on, you lose tuesdays game and you better finish 6th).

True.

And yes - you might schedule an auto scrimmage between the 7th placed teams for that case.

And what about TS ? :)

I'd rather have 7th and 8th going down.
No playdowns, 5th and 6th stay up.
Salaries paid every week even if the team has no game.
PO as today, maybe with increased income.
Increased prize money for promoted teams.

Helps prevent tanking. Prevents fighting purposedly for a good draft pick as it most probably means demotion.
No PO means no 3 games week for training.

Poor idea. As has been said this is not like real basketball. A NBA team cannot find themselves 8th seed and suddenly go out and buy a massive team and win the championships but it is easy to do it here. I could tank all season, save a fortune and then just win two games for the entire season and stay up? Serious?

The team that was coming 3rd all season in a tight conference has their star player suffer a major injury loses a couple of games and ends up in 5th and gets relegated by the 8th team that didn't win a game all season? Awesome.

I have made my suggestion before which would be fairly simple to impliment. You don't pay salaries in weeks when you don't have a competitive game. You also shouldn't get TV money or merchandising. This would make the advantages of coming 5th as opposed to 4th or 3rd a lot less.

How hard is it to add sthg. to a suggestion instead of bashing it right away?

Move the deadline for buying players a couple of weeks (1-2 weeks after Allstar-break). This would be good for the cup too, as you can buy the title pretty easily there...

When it is a terrible suggestion it is very hard, there is no point trying to polish a turd, you just need to flush it.

You talk about something unrelated. Tanking is one problem, making 3rd and 4th place attractive another one.
Right now you can do what you say with the 7th place.

You can't shutdown an idea and use the tanking problem for that.
