So just like in real life in BB you also foul more if the opponent is nearer to basket. + Just like in RL you get "and one" in BB on jump shots and shots near the basket.

As much as I can remember always shooting foul has come from the opposing player that plays the same spot as the shooter!
Only game end fouls can come from different player unless the sub frenzy has something to do with the fouls showing on wrong players...

I'm not as concerned about shooting fouls -that is fine.

I'm more concerned about the rash of non-shooting fouls my team has suddenly started to commit.

I had around ten fouls that were of the
"Foul called on X" variety.

I have no idea why these calls have started popping up more recently. My players have good defensive skills and are pretty balanced, so there is no obvious cause.

Why is this thread so long?
Everyone who has followed a few matches in BB should see that jump shooting fouls should be reduced and "and 1"s should be increased.
There's no need for a discussion, it's pretty obvious that the fouls are not balanced realistically...

You're not the final word on all matters BB.

You are not the final word, but I absolutely agree with you.

I didn't claim anything like that. :P

I said that everyone who watches RL basketball and who watched a few games in the BB match engine should notice this problem.

It seems pretty easy to fix: just lower the amount of jump shooting fouls and increase the amount of and 1 fouls near the rim to keep the overall foul numbers balanced.
The problem is: how would the foul distribution change for the players? Jump shooters would go to the free throw line less and big men more, which wouldn't be realistic, because in RL small guards who drive to the basket a lot get more calls then big guys (unless the big guys are dominant but suck at shooting free throws like Dwight Howard).
So I think, with this change a slight shift in the foul distribution towards guards driving to the basket would need to be implemented to keep everything realistic.

This topic is not the most important issue concerning the match engine though, so I'd understand if it will be ignored for now.

i don't see those many fouls on 3pt shots. maybe it happens on less skilled teams, but in my games it happens only once in a while

I said that everyone who watches RL basketball and who watched a few games in the BB match engine should notice this problem.

Insofar as BB tries to simulate realistic basketball games, people will intuitively try to benchmark what they see against real basketball games.

The problem is that even if the simulating algorithm is valid, you won't get comparable results unless you're using comparable inputs to the process. Therefore, before drawing definitive conclusions about GE changes from watching a handful of games, the first question we ask ourselves should probably be, "Is it possible that what we see is caused by a fundamental difference in player abilities?"

in shooting percentage thread, there is the assumption that OD was trained "too much", which should probadly the main skill in fouling.

I don't know what this assumption was based on. However, Jump Shot is being trained significantly more than defense.

This can be easily checked on the transfer market. I picked a the first level that came to mind, prominent. The results were:

Jump Shot (prominent or better): 234 results
Outside Defense (prominent or better): 37 results.
