I figured a more realistic thing to do is for countries with different writings like hebrew, chinese, Greek... that they can have the names of the players (and not alternative or another name) translated in the middle in their own native language. I know when I read BB in Hebrew i see the players names in English.


But it is never as easy as that. So who does the translations? The team owner themselves making up a name (and what if what the name is is completely different to what the real name actually is?) or the LAs have to go and make translations?

Also, a big problem with direct translations to a native language is that you can get completely different meanings with the native language. Most often the native language will just take some words that sound as similar as it can to the foreign language. E.g Obama = O Bus Horse in Chinese.

There are translation online tools everywhere that can do it. and from experience with Hebrew translation, I never experienced a translation that came off sounding different than the actual name. The names more often than not appear just as they are written in Hebrew when you watch a basketball game there on tv.

I see what you mean about the Obama thing, like if the computer read the last name Hill in translation it would actually translate the word Hill referencing the not as steep mountain. Well if translation tools are smart enough to translate any words and even sentences I'm sure there is someplace that has a tool that directly translate letters in the other language as its read regardless if it can be found in the dictionary.

Well if you have names which turn out to be bad words in other languages. At least we know in English we have a young superstar Major Cock (10840604) and interestingly he isn't owned by anyone which might indicate there are only straight men here.

This seems to be the weirdest suggestion I have read so far on these forums.

If you want an NBA roster you definitely NEED foreign (star) players, unless you are stuck in the 70's.

I would hate to have a roster full of Austrian hillbillies.

I didn't think through enough when I started this thread in how exactly to deliver this idea. I see now why it comes of looking stupid on first impression. So for now I leave it at that admitting it was stupid suggestion by me.
