Can we clarify what the Game Manual means by "Fifth defender"? What does that mean in the GE? The C? or the defender with the most ID or OD depending on which box you run?

I would say the best OD/ID/SB player. Or with other words: the best defensive player by rating (how this rating is calculated is another question)

I think we established beyond doubt that this is not the case with your Haek examples (where he was not picked to be the mtm guy)? I can probably prove it as well with Ma Anhui in a scrimmage later on in the season, since the difference between him and the rest of the defensive options is very big.

What? Haek was always the +1 defender. But he defended, according to the game manual, the wrong "position". That was unexpected.
If you read my examples again, you will see that Haek was every time the defender for mtm. The rest of the team build the box. So like I wrote, the best OD/ID/SB player is the +1 defender.

What I cannot say, if there is a weighting of the skills. Like for outside box +1 the skills would be weighted e. g. OD with 0.8, ID with 1.1 and SB with 1.1.

Uhm I thought in the third example Haek (playing PG) was clearly not the choice?

Well yes that's possible, we'd need extremes on both sides to be absolutely sure. Our NT big men usually shot half of the times against Ma and he's better than Haek was inside. I also wonder what would happen with a patient with a the outside scorer playing at PF or C (surely the scorer should be viewed by the GE either as the outside or as the inside main threat)

That would be interessting. And now go one step further. You switch the SG with the PF and play patient. With this you could create two possible patient-missmatches. The box+1 will go for the bigger threat, but the other player could still kill you.

About the third example: Haek was the +1 defender, I was just not sure if he will defend the SG or the PF. It was this case where I thought "trust the game manual or my one impression".
