I agree that quantity shouldn't be rewarded. However, this system is still an improvement on the old system. And it is hard to reward quality and quantity in a meaningful way.

I do agree that this system is an improvement, I just don't see it as the optimal end result. I also agree with Marot, though, in that this is something that's largely insignificant in the grand scheme of things.

The new system encourages activity in a sense. Now there is no fear of getting 1 balled and feeling like a heel. More activity is a great thing, especially for the forums.

Completely agree. Hopefully people are now able to ask questions in the help forum without the fear or being 1 balled for every post and question they ask. This new system is much more user friendly.

I post fairly often, but found that alot of threads died because people feared the ' 1 ballerz'. For the record I do not post as much as Naker, he is a freak of nature and must have blisters on his fingers :)

BTW- 1 ballerz would be a sweet team name!!

But seriously, I don't see the necessity in any rating scheme. Every scheme is flawed. If any hierarchy is to be made, it shouldn't be made from a post rating system. It should be constructed and conditioned per an individuals genuine feelings on a poster. Generally it's not difficult to separate right from wrong. It's not difficult to spot really helpful people. I take what I see from some people as gospel but they're not the only helpful people. The forums are a community, I've never understood ratings in the first place. The old ratings were a huge negative, though (to me).

I participate on different forum (the forums of another simulation game; a game that is awful in contrast to this awesome game) and the community on the forums and the navigation and smoothness of the forum are probably the biggest reasons the game functions and succeeds. 80% of the user base plays the game because of the forums and forum community. Maybe I should take this to suggestions, but I think this game could really boom with revamped forums. Frankly, these forums aren't very inviting. A more open and clean forum would be conducive to increased activity and who knows where that would lead.
