Wasnt that bad huh? This guy was a #1 pick. Look at the history of #1 picks and over the last 30+ years they are all either great players, or pretty good players.

Oden is also a pretty good player but injured, a bad player as number one pick is properly Larue Martin.

I'm not sure we will ever find out how good Oden is. If we ask his mother she will probably agree with you. If you ask the GM of the Blazers, I bet he says....

i think the new contract he get from the GM was surely a sign that he agree with you.

Oh wait, he got lot more then the minimum, and they even want to sign him.

Maybe we had o check if Oden's mother the GM of the franchise.

Haha, yep. If he signed him then it must be gold. He and you both have higher hopes than I do for him. I get that he was great in college. I remember the high hopes all of the draft scouts innundated us with. I have seen his size and highlights and recognize the potential for greatness. What drowns all that out is the actual performance of his fisrt three years. I beieve this contract is also based on his potential, and Portland is willing to gamble in hopes of still getting a return on their investment. We should certainly revisit this topic when they play a few games. Say....meet you here around New Years?

I think players normally get a pass from being labeled a "bust" if they are unproductive due to injury.

If its that they never develop, get eclipsed by other players, have attitude or drug issues etc., then I think most people would label them a "bust".

Well, the word in this usage is open to interpretation I suppose. Bust in this context is considered slang by Webster's so there is no exact interpretation. For me a bust is someone whom expecations are high and resulting production is low. Or put another way- High investment+ low return = bust.
