Despite India's ranking, I rate them as a team, so was happy to come away with the win, especially with them putting in more effort. I was disappointed in our defensive effort though.

The game in five:

1. The team got off to a handy lead through a great offensive first quarter. This was driven by the centres, as Scoggins and Schnieder didn't miss a shot on the way to 17 points between them - with Scoggins scoring 6 points on offensive put backs. Reiffel, Hadley and Shishaev all got off to slow starts.

2. India scored 33 points in the 2nd quarter. Fortunatly we scored 37, to take a 16 point lead at half time. While Scoggins cooled off, Hadley and Shishaev started to get going, and Reimers scored his first NT points.

3. India got themselves within striking distance by outscoring us by 2 in the third quarter. While we were blitzing them offensively, largely due to Scoggins and Lonergan's dominating presence inside, our defense was letting them in the game.

4. A 7 point burst by Scoggins in the first couple of minutes of the final quarter got the game to garbage time. India took advantage of the subs to get the back within 9 points, but the starters closed the game out.

5. India shot over 50 per cent, which is a concern - thought the matchup ratings suggest they got a bit lucky. Still, we will need to put on better defensive showings to challenge the top teams.

3. Dylan Scoggins - should be no real arguments over this one. Scoggins shot 12-17, scored 27 points and grabbed 7 offensive boards. A complete game from the star big man

2. Vladimir Shishaev - While the bigs were the key to the offense, they can't score if they don't get the ball. Shishaev ensured they got the ball with 7 assists, and scored 20 points himself with a couple of 3s.

1. Darren Lonergan - the other half of the big man duo. Was outshone by Scoggins tonight, but 23 points and 5 offensive boards is good enough for a vote.

There is no game on next week, so we'll be able to arrange a scrimmage to test out some tactics.

Very surprised to see India play that well... and also to see our bigs dominate in a PTB offense. One of the bigs willl surely get the Jackson Mansfield medal by years end.

And also great to see Reimers get some nt minutes, hopefully for the team the other g's get some better gameshape, hopefully for me and Reimers they dont.

With the team having a week off from competitive games, we have a scrimmage tonight against Hong Kong. Game starts at 8:30 AET - it should be a good test of where our team is at, along with a chance to try a slightly different tactic.

Back to competitive games this week, with a game against 24th ranked Japan, which should be a good test.

After our opening three wins, we are all but assured of making it through to the next round, barring a disaster, but these games will be useful to determine where our team is at, as well as being important for determining which pool we go to for the next round.

Game is on at 9pm tomorrow, as always.

A disappointing loss against Japan last night, one we probably should have won. Still, Japan are ranked higher than us, and have built a good team for a small user base, so I can't begrudge them this win. We'll get em back when it matters ;)

The game in five

1. This game really shows that the look inside dominance is still alive and well. I think based on ratings we were probably the better team, but when the teams are relatively even matched, when one team goes LI and the other doesn't, well no prizes for guessing who is probably going to win.

2. Our offense was hideous early. At half time we had two players shooting 50% or better. Both who had hit 1 shot from 2 attempts. Degas (1-8) and Walker (0-5) had awful first halves.

3. Our offense was slightly improved in the third. Degas (4-8) had a better quarter (as soon as I bagged him out in chat, he started hitting shots. I've lost count of the amount of times this has happened) and Scoggins (4-7) started to look dangerous. At the end of the third we were still within striking distance at just 6 points behind.

4. Our offense again looked dangerous at the beginning of the fourth, despite Scoggins fouling out. However our defense killed any momentum we may have had - as we allowed dunks on 6 or Japan's first 7 possessions in the quarter (let me tell you, a certain NT manager was pulling his hair out...)

5. Poor FT shooting is inexcusable. While Japan's FT shooting was atrocious and kept us in it, ours wasn't much better. While 16-26 doesn't sound terrible, it felt like whenever we had a chance to get a run on, a couple of missed FTs would kill our momentum.

3. Dylan Scoggins - While Anderson scored more points, Scoggins was more damaging while the game was on the line in the 3rd. Sadly, him fouling out killed any chance we had of winning, as Schnieder just couldn't keep up the rate Scoggins was setting.

2. Leigh Reiffel - His 3-10 shooting wasn't great, and I would like to see more from here. However, his ability to facilitate the offense from the SF was very handed, as he handed out 7 assists, and also grabbed a couple of offense boards. If he could improve his scoring efficiency, he could become a star for us.

1. Keith Anderson - Gave us a slim chance with a 5-6 shooting last quarter. However, if he had pulled his finger out of his arse earlier, rather than going 2-6 in the first three quarters, we might have won the game. Gets 1 vote for his 1 decent quarter.

3. Leigh Reiffel - Gets full votes because I had their SF combo pegged as one that could get away from us. While they didn't play poorly, Reiffel did a good job in restricting their shots. Also did a decent job on the boards.

2. Lionel Walker - SG was about the only position that didn't shoot 50% + for them. So hooray, votes for Walker.

1. Dylan Scoggins - Gets votes for being smart enough to play hack-a-Kishita, given the bloke couldn't hit the side of a barn from the FT line. Though it did result in him being fouled out. Tradeoffs...

With no real standouts this week, a solid (but unspectacular) game from Reiffel sees him snare 5 votes, and take the outright lead. With 6 votes on offer, however, there are 6 players who could take the lead from him next week with a spectacular performance against China.

For those interested, Brent Degas, one of our best guards is on the market now. Listed for chips, he'd be a great player for anyone making a title drive, or trying to stave off relegation ;).

Next game is against China on Monday. This will be tough.

Playing Lubnan this tonight, who believe it or not, are above us on the Consolation Tournament table.

Game starts at 11pm (AWT), come into chat and enjoy a game in what is a slow week for BB...

Can't complain with our performance tonight. We took it up to a much stronger team, and were still in it with 6 minutes to play.

The game in five

1. Our offense got off to a good start, with Walker scoring 14 points in the first quarter, and Rieffel chipping in with 6. Noone else on the team scored however, and we lost all momentum when the bench came on. This was the story of the night - the starters would keep us close, but then the bench would kill us. Indeed we only got 9 points from our bench all night.

2. Walker remained the focal point of our offense, and took alot of shots in the second. Sadly he barely hit any, scoring only 6 points for the quarter. We only scored 15 points for the quarter, which killed any chance of making the game competitive. The third quater was closer, but sadly we weren't really within striking distance entering the fourth.

3. That all changed as Walker went dead set nuts to open the fourth, scoring 15 points in the first six minutes to drag us back within 10. Sadly, we weren't able to keep that momentum going, and we ended up losing by 20.

4. Where was the game won and lost? That's easy. Rebounds. I didn't expect to grab many offensiv boards with Walker at PF, but I didn't think we would give up so many with the defensive switches. It wasn't just the number of boards we gave up, it was that most of them were tipped back in for easy twos. My count suggests we gave up 19 points on offensive rebound tip ins. That hurts.

5. Taking away the tip ins, our defense actually did a pretty good job. Considering China pulled a high prodigious inside shot rating, I can't be too disappointed with the effort there.

3. Leigh Reiffel. This bloke just keeps contributing each week. Considering he wasn't the focal point of the offense, he scored alot of points, did it efficiently, got a few assists, and grabbed 50% of our offensive board. With 1.

2. Lionel Walker. Wasn't his most efficent shooting effort. But he was expected to carry the offense on his shoulders, and didn't do a bad job of it. His three point shooting and ability to get to the line was a real highlight.

1. Vladimir Shishaev. Noone else really scored alot of points. So I'm giving the one vote to Shishaev because he was facilitating the offense at PG, and his job was to get Walker the ball. He did that. Got a few assists, and converted from his trip to the line. Did all he needed to do.

3. Vladimir Shishaev. Stopped his opponent from scoring, and stopped the ball from getting inside easily. Their PGs combined for just 5 assists and 11 points on the night. Also grabbed some defensive boards. Which is more than I can say for the rest of our team.

2. Scott Schnieder. The opposing PFs got a hold of him more than I would have liked. But without him on the boards tonight... I shudder at the thought.

1. Lionel Walker. Noone else really stood out here, but he did a decent job at SG at preventing the ball from getting inside, so he gets the vote.

As always a nice easy fun to read overview of the game

Fantastic writeup as usual/ I really enjoy reading this and it is funny seeing the constant roundabout of these guys coming and going in the ABBL. One funny thing, you fairly much have to have Hall Of Fame potential to make the Aussie NT these days, there are only two guys with MVP potential which are Darren Lonergan and Steve Reimers. But there is one player with only superstar potential, the Jackson Mansfield medal leader Leigh Reiffel.

Lionel Walker is 32, do we have anyone in the pipeline that can fill his massive shoes?
