Uhm could it be that you "seem to be advocating" that training 3 players out of position would be "making the effort" because it requires managers to throw more games than 1? What kind of game pushes a player to lose more in order to succeed/have fun? I see a lot of people complaining about tanking, but then the same people forget that in order to train you have to throw games or field very subpar lineups.
Not only that, but with the current system, you cannot compete in more games than with the system you described because you train only one regime per week (which means when you train out of position the lineups for the entire week are affected). If tanking is bad, people throwing games is even worse, especially if you get the short stick (you get a tough game and a direct competitor gets a blowout win): I can't see more thrown competitive games with the change you described.

I don't see many arguments from you either, Hrudey, except this one here, which does twist other people's opinions. I'm sure nobody, here or elsewhere, even Mike Franks, has ever advocated that we should be able to make no effort as you imply with your statement. Somewhat less effort yes (i.e. you still have to play guards at C and bigs at PG, but you can do 2 at the same time, maybe in the scrimmage), more game balance yes (teams playing closer to their real value and with less variability over time).
Let's be realistic, the regime you described would make much more sense without taking away much for anybody. However, it's also more difficult to code and seeing it took seasons to fix simpler issues like blank lineups, delays in training, no box scores available for hours and hours after games, I don't think this can be realistically implemented within a reasonable timeframe.

I'm ignoring the rest of the quote because it was just more building upon the same faulty initial premise, that you have to throw games to train players out of position in competitive leagues (and further that the game requires that). That's the equivalent of sitting in a room where the door is open, the window is shut, and claiming to be trapped in the room because you can't open the window. It's simply faulty logic - you are not required to throw games or be uncompetitive to train players out of position, unless you're at a very high level. Obviously, in the NBBA you're going to have a tough go of it, and probably in my current league I would have a hard time, but I had three eighteen year old big men that I played pretty much exclusively out of position for training from season 19 through season 21 and still sporadically after that. I was in a competitive III series, and I didn't throw games - I'd have weeks where I did the two position stuff to try to have stronger lineups when needed, and one position some weeks when I was facing an easier team, but I didn't throw games.

So I categorically reject the premise that it "can't" be done and that the game "pushes a player to lose more in order to succeed/have fun?" I mean, I ended up fifth all three seasons, though I'm still bitter about a buzzer beater dunk at the end of the last game that meant I missed the playoffs by two points of PD. It was not as easy as just fielding a cookie cutter lineup, of course, and it required me to think about what I was doing, but those appear to be things about the game that others might like. I know I enjoyed the competition and the challenge.

Well I completely agree. However, use the same logic you applied in your last comment and apply it to the second last. You'll find out that all you can apply all the arguments to the current system as well and maybe more.

Point 1 you made:

I was trying to explain that the situation would not be worse than today where you have to train every game out of position because the same regime must be applied to all trainees. All you have said in your last comment applies equally to the current system as well. As I was trying to argue, on average teams would be a bit more competitve in the new system than they are today.

Point 2:
You need to make more of an effort. The effort comes from the fact that you need to train out of position. Under the system you described absolutely nothing would change, you still have to do that and make the effort. With the current regime you are also forced to train all your trainees with the same regime any given week, be it out of position or not.
This is not a matter of effort it is only a matter of convenience and flexibility. Right now you can't train a guard and a big man together, with the system you described you could. Nothing else would change.

And since you seem to think people who advocate a different system are whiners (not your words but pass me the term) who can't get it done with the current system, this is what happened to me last season:

I trained 5 weeks out of position (which prevented my trainee from being considered for his U21), during the regular season and I never trained ST, GS or FT. I know, it's possible, I know it's challenging and whatnot, I'm arguing that the system you depicted isn't any easier, it's just more flexible (you can train at different positions rather than having to train all the trainees the same way and then swap one of your trainees for another guy through the TL).

I would expect that at the middle to higher levels, there'd be even more incidence of teams completely throwing a game per week - which is common enough as it is in the middle levels for teams contemplating Cup runs. If throwing a single game would also allow you to train three players a full 48 minutes as well, it would simply add additional incentive for that. But of course, that's just as much speculation as the thought that it would improve competitiveness so we can just leave it as a difference of opinion.

I just plainly reject the notion that throwing a league game by playing 3 trainees out of position simultaneously is a reasonable option or makes things worse compared to what they are now.

People will have the possibility to juggle training having substantially more flexibility (i.e. you can alternate out of position training and best position training when needed because what you do with one trainee does not affect the other trainees). If anything, I'd think people would try and give training in the cup/scrimmage game, which are less important, but even then it would come at the risk that they can't be sure to give enough minutes to the trainees. The problem you're insisting on would also be a concern for the initial 4-5 weeks of competitive cup games at best and many of such games are very unbalanced anyway; after that people would throw scrimmage games not competitive games.

You're happy to criticise the fact you could throw 1 game by playing all your trainees, but you're fine with the current system where you have to potentially throw 2 games to train out of position? And let's be clear that for the rest of the league throwing a game now or in the new system would be exactly the same thing. There is also the impact of additional training flexibility on GS training and the hard-to-create players will still be hard to create.

My last two thoughts on the subject:
1. I reject the notion that you have to throw games to train out of position, and seeing as how I did it, my opinion is pretty resolute.
2. If you can train all three players in one game, it takes away the concept of having to make some compromises; it makes it possible to be your most competitive and still train three unique players with no side effects (other than perhaps bailing out of the Cup early or throwing a league game). The difference is now the teams that already throw games like that will now also be able to get a full week's training to do so. It replaces a meaningful decision (to do training or squeeze a little more productivity out of the roster) with an almost mandatory decision to do both.
