Always nice to have friends to buy your crappy old players to bail you out of bankruptcy.

i've got to chime in here to say something about recent transactions. my vocabulary is limited: is there a word that means "a series of fortuitous events that work for one team and otherwise seem to be inexplicable"?

-- A-Dub announces he is on the verge of getting caught by the bankruptcy rules.
-- A-Dub places three 39 year old players on the TL; collectively he is asking for $650,000 for the three.
-- these three players then provoke modest bidding wars, and A-Dub nets $850,000.
-- two of these players are purchased by a manager in the Barbados league; i don't squat about the manager or the league, except the manager has occasionally left comments in this forum.
-- the third player was purchased by a tanking NBBA team. the purchase is hard to understand: the player is ancient and will be of little use in the future. the player has the highest salary on the team, now -- but $10,000 does not put the team anywhere near the league floor. a 33-year old with a similar salary was purchased for $100,000, one-fourth the cost of the A-Dub player. there were already 15 other players on the roster, so it is not like this player is necessary to fill out game-time rosters. a quick look at the TL show quickly that $350,000 could purchase much better players, whether the criteria is age or skill, especially if salary is not a concern. in short, this transaction looks like a complete waste of money from an experienced manager who got to this level and thus has proven himself as capable.

-- and A-Dub avoids bankruptcy and having his entire squad put on the TL. indeed, he does it without having to break up his core and can now continue on his way to multiple championships.

i don't know anything about anyone's motives, and there may well be facts that i don't know anything about. but what is have stated here leaves a bad taste in my mouth. it's unfortunate -- this is the first time i have felt this way since i started this game.

I've wanted to avoid commenting but this post right here hits the nail on the head. And Hassan, their "motives" are actually clearly stated on a thread in the offsite where he says people have offered to help him out.

A-Dub hasn't broken any rules.

Whether or not the purchase of those players was at market value is up to the mods to decide as accusations of cheating are not allowed on the forums. I agree that the players were probably bought at more than they were worth, but that happens often. I agree that managers may possibly have alterior motives to buy A-Dubs players to help him not go bankrupt, but again, it isn't our place to decide that, and technically A-Dub never asked anyone to break any rules. I'll be honest, I contacted A-dub and asked if there was anything I could do to help him, but he said that he couldn't think of anything that would help that wasn't against the rules and that he didn't want to do anything that would be a breach of BuzzerBeater policy and that his plan was just to wait and hope someone bought his players.

In the offsite post he still did not solicite help beyond what is allowed, he simply explained his situation. If GMs feel the need to step in, they will, but people buying A-Dubs players for whatever reason is not against the rules.

Also I'm thrashing his team tonight and I don't even own a full roster so his team can't be that good.

I appreciate your support & honesty. I was hoping to keep the two managers whom contacted me confidential in order to protect their integrity from being scrutinized. There intentions were good.
