the game engine has some flaws which prevents some tactics from working as intended..

i figured that was the case. so they really *didn't* intend it to be this difficult to use 2-3 zone...

Rebounding strenghten the defence

that's the only real positive. but gets far outweighed by everything else IMO.

true.
i just meant in general though.
(and a team is in serious trouble if the best option is to not even try to stop the opponent from scoring!)

maybe they can add a defense where all 5 players have their back to the offense... & are waiting for a rebound under the basket, haha. call it the 0-5 zone!

Although it should also have a huge benefit in picking up loose balls when atrocious handling big men fumble with it.

The shooting percentage of the opponent won't raise, and he takes less shot. imho that a good deal.

Playing 3-2 against outside team, didn't totally change the game to maybe there are more misses but more offensiv rebound in the end you are happy that the opponent score ten point less. You don't shut him down from 100 to 50 point with it, the same things happen with 2-3. Just that most player already plays SF, who are very outside focused so that you don't have to change then.

Don't forget about the legendary Chris Dudley. A strikingly effective rebounder and defender, but an amazingly inept scorer. He made Shaq look good from the free throw line.

I haven't read the entire thread, but I've tried 3-2 zone just to see if my center with ID 14 and SB 8 would block any layups from guards (I guess it's a similar concept with 2-3 zone). My center's name is Froget and the game is (48762627)

1 11:53 0 — 0 B. Umilta (A) tries a driving layup under pressure from Y. Froget (H). Shot blocked.
1 10:04 2 — 4 R. Novaković (A) tries a driving layup, guarded closely by Y. Froget (H). Shot blocked
1 8:51 2 — 5 R. Novaković (A) attempts a baseline jumper, guarded closely by Y. Froget (H). Shot blocked.
1 0:48 19 — 18 H. Ergül (A) slips off a screen and fires from the elbow with Y. Froget (H) right in his face. Shot blocked.
2 10:59 21 — 24 B. Umilta (A) tries a driving layup, guarded closely by Y. Froget (H). Shot blocked.

Before fouling out, he had 5 blocks in 27 minutes. He blocked a PF once, SF twice and PG twice. Of course he fouled out because his OD is not high enough.

I think SB doesn't help much against inside players with high inside shot, unless your player's SB is higher than IS of his counterpart. It does help tremendously against driving layups though because DR is much inferior to IS as far as FG% goes. So I'll give 3-2 defense a few more tries and someday maybe even 2-3.

Maybe...but where will you find a guard with ID 14 and SB 8?

I also noticed there are very little blocks when playing M2M. That's because a player with ID 17 and SB 10 will not block a lot of shots, coming from a player with IS 17. However he can block some shots coming from guards with DR 17 and IS 5, for example. Maybe that's one of the reasons a lot of people say SB isn't useful - because SB should be really high to create a next Serge Ibaka. I mean, you face a IS 20 guy with ID 18 and SB 12, and complain SB is useless...face the same guy with ID 19 and SB 18 and suddenly blocks will start coming.

And what about alteration of the shot?
