This is an excellent example of why I like this feature.

Guys are trying to peddle that player for $650k when realistically he should go for around $150k. People are upset that they can't gouge each other, which speaks more to human nature than anything but if it can be curtailed then good.

Once I scored a basket that still makes me laugh.

I'm sure the admins will look at all this, and see how things develop, and make changes as necessary. I think this is a great idea, and another example of why it didn't take me too long on this site before becoming a supporter. Excellent anticipation of the needs of newer players.

Don't ask what sort of Chunks they are, you probably don't want to know. Blowing Chunks since Season 4!

Hi all,
Thanks for this thread -- it's good to see how people are responding to the transfer list.
I wanted to make a couple clarifications, though, based on what I've read here.

1) Players are binned on the information that is listed (age, potential, expected position, and top relevant skill). We have found that these four factors have the biggest effect on the transfer price, so they were used.

2) Secondary skills are taken into account: That is, within a bin, your player is compared to the most similar players with the same age, potential, position, and top skill. So, a bin might have 100 transfers in the range of $1k to $1000k, but the most similar few might be in the range of $500k - $700k. So, it's more than just the top skill.

3) The data that is given is purely based on previous transfers. So, by definition it isn't going to undervalue allstar potential players, or condemn over-30 players -- it only shows what the market thinks of them.

4) Because of the minimal data we have available, some players will have very wide price ranges. Our model is intended to give as much information as is possible -- for some players, it is just impossible to give too much info. So, if the price estimator works well for 50% of players, and doesn't work well for the other 50%, then it's still very useful -- just ignore it for the latter 50%.

5) The tool will get better over time, as more and more transfers are made. We only look at the most recent few weeks, but as the game grows, the tool will get better and better.

I hope this helps explain the most common concerns I've seen in this thread. Keep the discussion going, though, and I'll check back every so often.

Cheers!

I found a funny example too:

(2988307)

$ 1 050 000 to $ 1 200 000, for this player? seriously? give me two of them in that case.

this label is just completely out of proportion, a player like that, 19 years old and with all those skills would go for at least the double, on a bad market day

Thanks for the clarification.

Could you also confirm us that this new tool will not ultimately (in the short or long run)be used to determine the "market rate" of a player but will just remain an indication to help managers? (It is against BuzzerBeater rules to bid above market rates on a player)

LA-André example is great and illustrates my concern. This player is worth much more than what mentioned, so if this tool would one day become a way to measure the "market rate" would it mean that the manager who sold him would only receive 1.2 million? (since the bid was above market rate...)

Two points:

1) Yes, this is only an indicator of market rates. GMs will look at all cases individually, and will never use this as part of an automated banning tool (but it will certainly help them find problem cases).

2) With this player in particular, it says "Alpsagun Yesevi is probably better than all 7 of these players, but the few that are most similar have been selling for around $ 1 050 000 to $ 1 200 000." So, it's essentially say that this player won't sell for less than $1.2M. That's the best info we have on him -- his secondary skills are plentiful and all very strong, (see, i told you secondaries were taken into account :-)) so it thinks he's better than all the other players with the same Prominent JS and Allstar Potential for 19 year olds.

It's not meant to be pinpoint accurate.

NO ONE at this table ordered a rum & Coke

A CT? Really?
Any two will do
Any three for me
Any four will score
Any five are live

Im surprised he even got a valuation.... i wouldve expected to see not many players similar to _____ have been transferred recently.

They are the really special ones!

I might be able to scrape together 1.2 for him if he gets relisted!
