Cup Watch

cont. from prev post

The "Survivor League II.1" continues with Lionheart Jaguar visting the always bobbling arena of Bobbleheads. Whatever Bobblehead's coach said in the locker room to inspire or put fear in their team worked like a charm as Bobblehead's players came out with a huge fire compared to Lionheart Jaguar's players. Bobblehead's SF Nicola Veridiani was having a night of his life, scoring a season high 56pts, dominating and shooting jumpers over his multiple defenders on 22-34 shooting, 10-13 FT with 8rebs and 4asts. Veteran G Bill Swain also scored 26pts shooting 11-25 on the field. Jaguar's 6'7" SF Tariq Zuabi scored 23pts but fouled out after spending the majority of the night guarding or double teaming Nicola Veridiani. PF Xosé Udias had a double double of 14pts and 15rebs playing all 48mins but U21 Fan Ping Wai has a disasterious night needing 14shots(3-14) to score 14pts. Still, the monster night of Nicola Veridiani proved to be too much for Lionheart Jaguar as Bobbleheads beat the Jaguars 115-96.

And the last of the League II.1 Battle Royale, KKTAN hosted Chai Chee in TTSH for the cup game. Things started of close but it all fell apart in the 3rd quarter for Chai Chee and they could not recover. KKTAN's SG Raivis Feldblums lead all scorers with 24pts on a very accurate 9-13 shooting. PG Frederik Kionka became a shoot-first guard that night, chipping in 20pts. Chai Chee's PF Jarno Pylkkö shot 6-12 finishing the night with 17pts and 5rebs while holding KKTAN's Jonathan Tulod to 7pts, 3-15 shooting. Longtime Chai Chee guard Yiannakis Sarlis, had 16pts but shot a dismal 5-21 and giant C Pedro Cafranga added in 16pts and pulled down a huge 25rebs. Still all these efforts from Chai Chee could not prevent the 3rd quarter meltdown that led to KKTAN's victory, pushing Chai Chee out of the cup, with the final score 82-74.

Player of the week: Week 4

Competition is heating up in the cup games and league II.1. Teams are all battling out to get in the playoffs. These are the players turned up a notch and helped their team stay ahead.

Great 8
Player of the week goes to scoring machine Nicola Veridiani of Bobbleheads

We know that Nicola Veridiani has won the player of the week for week 2 before and there are quite a few candidates lined up but we cant pass Nicola Veridiani up due to his amazing games for the last week. In the 1st game, Nicola Veridiani went on an offensive tear, scoring 30pts on 12-24 shooting with 4-10 from distance as he single handedly tried to bring Bobbleheads back into the game against Hoop Magical. And if you think the 30pt outburst was impressive, Nicola Veridiani went wild on Lionheart Jaguar during the cup game, scoring a whopping 56pts and still managing an all around game with 8rebs and 6asts playing all 48mins, bringing home the cup game victory to Bobbleheads and the week 4 player of the week as well.

Week 4 averages for Nicola Veridiani: 44min, 43pts, 58.6 FG%(34-58), 5rebs, 4.5asts

Big 8
Player of the week goes to U21 Sapian bin Bidi from NEWBak Ku Teh Kings

Sapian bin Bidi has been steadily improving since he was drafted in season 17, proving himself to be an excellent scoring G-F and Singapore recognises it, selecting him to be one of the starters in the U21 games this season. In the U21 game against South Africa, Sapian started at SF and scored 22pts with 10-16 shooting adding in 2asts and a steal in 38min of action contributing and bringing Singapore U21 to a 95-76 win over South Africa. Back to the league game against Chai Chee, Sapian, this time starting at PG, played all 48mins to lead all scorers with 25pts, 10-14 shooting adding in 3 asts and being a menace in defence with 4 steals.

Week 4 averages for Sapian bin Bidi: 43mins, 23.5pts, 66.7 FG% (20-30), 2.5 asts, 2.5 steals

Player of the week special: Week 5 and Week 6

We have a combined week 5 and week 6 player of the week awards to catch up on those weeks we have missed. Do not worry players! Your efforts and contributions to the teams in the weeks will not be overlooked!

Week 5

Great 8
Player of the week goes to Viktor Latabár of juntion 9

Last season (season 20) the new juntion 9 was bashed and battered but survived at the 7th spot in the tough Great 8 league. This season, its no surprise that juntion 9 shot up to 2nd spot with a roster overhaul that brought in great role players in addition to their great core. Viktor Latabár was one of them brought in during season 21 and he has contributed as expected. In the game against Sugar Ray, Viktor was the go to guy in offense, shooting 10-16 scoring 22pts adding in 3 rebs and 3asts. In the cup game later on against the favoured B.B.C.C, Viktor was still the go to guy in offense, scoring 21pts on 7-12 shooting but also dished out 7asts to get this teammates going eventually defeating the favourites 101-89.

Week 5 averages for Viktor Latabár: 35mins, 21.5pts, 60.7 FG% (17-28), 3 rebs, 5 asts, 2 steals

Big 8
Player of the week goes to Raivis Feldblums of KKTAN

KKTAN is now tied with Final Fantasy XIII for the 3rd and 4th spot for the playoff teams and it will performance like Raivis Feldblums to give them the edge to getting a higher playoff seed. In the 1st game against Bobbleheads, Raivis Feldblums dominated everyone in Bobbleheads, scoring a massive 34pts, shooting 13-18 and grabbing 7 boards, a high number for a guard, bringing victory to the visiting KKTAN 117-106. In the next match against top team Hoop Magical, Raivis Feldblums continued his great offensive output with 22pts 3rebs and 3asts doing his best but still KKTAN lost in this tough game against Hoop Magical. Finally in the cup game against EricUnited, Raivis Feldblums wasnt' his usual self scoring only 10pts but adding in 3 rebs and 4asts but still managed to defend EricUnited's István Szucs well holding him to 14pts, 6-19 shooting. Still, its EricUnited, one of the top elite teams in Singapore and it handed KKTAN's its 2nd consecutive loss 102-86.

Week 5 averages for Raivis Feldblums: 43mins, 22pts, 54.2 FG% (26-48), 4.3 rebs, 3 asts

Week 6

Great 8
Player of the week goes to Zsolt Marton of ACSI

ACSI is probably going through what was handed to juntion 9 last season, or what a new franchise will go through during its early seasons- getting beat up. Still ACSI has a respectable 5-7 win/loss score in one of the toughest league in Singapore and the reason why is Zsolt Marton's stellar performances notably during week 6. In the league game at home against Lionheart Jaguar, Zsolt Marton played all 48mins and scored a game high of 42pts hitting 4-9 from downtown, 6-8 from the free throw line, playing his guts out to push ACSI to a 107-93 victory, bringing the entire home crowd to their feet. And in the next league game against another new team YinSzu, Zsolt Marton again playing all 48mins, schooled the entire YinSzu team with 22pts and 4asts, securing a 88-71 victory.

Week 6 averages for Zsolt Marton: 48mins, 32pts, 54.2 FG% (26-48), 4 asts

Big 8
Player of the week goes to So You Xiong of NEWBak Ku Teh Kings

So You Xiong is the man in the middle after Dong Tian Kwang left the Kings to pursue better career opportunities. He doesn't score in great numbers but his contribution cleaning up missed shots and defending is a good enough reason why the NEWBak Ku Teh Kings are at the top this season. In the 1st league game against Ghosthunter, So You Xiong, in just 21mins, shot a perfect 5-5 from the field chipping in 12pts and grabbing a monster 17rebs holding both C of Ghosthunter scoreless (0-13) leading the Kings to a dominating victory. In the next game against rajons team, So You Xiong was again a perfect 3-3 from the field with 8pts and 16rebs. However, that night his biggest contribution was playing stifling defence against national team player, Chung Wen Xin, frustrating him to just 8pts, 4-17 shooting.

Week 6 averages for So You Xiong: 24mins, 10pts, 100 FG% (8-8), 16.5 rebs
