Bit of an anti-climax! Would have been better if they made a shot! We had 3 chances to win the game and didn't, that's our fault.

I'll do some short recaps of last week:

Group A

Misr 118 - Philippines 110

Minor upset here as Misr (1-1) took down Philippines for their first win in the Worlds this season. Philippines dropped to 0-2. Misr was led by star big man Sulayman Yousef who had an amazing 34pts, 22rbs, and 4asts, to go along with 4-5 3 pointers. This game was not as close as the score shows, as Misr held an 18 point lead with 2 minutes left. Guard Norman Migallos led Philippines with 24 points in 18 minutes of play off the bench.

Chile 130 - Uruguay 117

A rematch of the Americas semifinal in Season 15. Chile flexed their inside muscle in this one, putting up a fantastic marvelous inside scoring rating and now have a 2-0 record in Group A. David Tapia dominated inside, with 25 pts on 10-12 shooting, along with 13 rebounds. Uruguayan guard José Pedro Pimienta had 36pts in the losing effort as Uruguay dropped to 1-1.

Australia 138 - Italia 139

Definitely the match of the night here as the Australians fought their way into overtime with the Italians. Australia looked like they had a chance to win in regulation, but PG McNamara missed a crucial free throw allowing Italian C Pericle Sinibaldi to hit the game tying shot with 8 seconds left. Then Australian PG Shaun McArthur missed a driving layup at the buzzer and the game went to overtime!

In OT the lead went back and forth and the game got intense when McArthur found big man Liang Huaizheng for the dunk to give Australia a one point lead with 17 seconds remaining. Italia had the ball and a chance to win, but the game ended in controversy as Australian monster center Rudolph Radford was called for a personal foul with no time remaining on the clock! Sinibaldi canned both clutch free throws and the game was shockingly over. Italy improved its record to 2-0, while Australia dropped to 0-2.

Group B

Al Maghrib 133 - Poland 182

Not much to discuss here as Poland crushed Al Maghrib by nearly 50 points. Poland used a Full Court Press and forced the Moroccans into 28 turnovers. Sylwester Rakus led the way for Poland, with 34 points and 18 rebounds. 7 players scored in double digits for Poland, as they continue to impress in these Worlds, improving to 2-0. The Moroccans were led by guard Hassam El-Haroun, who showed some fight as he scored 51 points in this game. Al Maghrib dropped to 0-2.

United States 122 - Canada 111

The battle for North American supremacy was a good one, as this game went down to the wire. Down 18 at one point, Canada fought back, cutting the American lead to 2 when Essa Abu-Kaleel hit a jumper with 1:45 remaining in the game. The Canadians could not pull off the amazing comeback as American guard Joe Bronson hit a clutch 3 with a little over a minute remaining to put the game out of reach. Irwin Velasco had 29 points on 12-13 shooting for the Americans, who improved to 2-0. Canadian center Christopher Moran had an impressive 21 points and 25 rebounds as Canada fell to 1-1.

España 101 - China 86

España came out of the gate strong in this one, as both teams went to their inside offenses hoping to earn their first victory in the Worlds this season. Though the ratings appear very similar for both teams in this match, the matchup at Power Forward clearly went to the Spanish as Lantz Irakozi dominated with 23 points and 16 rebounds, and held Chinese PF Peng Dingxiang to only 10 points and 6 rebounds on 5-17 shooting. This was a surprisingly poor performance from Dingxiang as he was in proficient game shape. China is in a tough situation now as they fall to 0-2, while España improves to 1-1.

After vanishing for a weekend im back for this week, here we go again :P

Americas U21 continentals

Pool C:

Results:

Panama 97 at Rep. Dominicana 70
Rep.Dominicana Ctd against a Panama TIE and Panama was still able to cruise to the victory in this one and improved to a 3-0 record to join 3 other teams that are currently unbeaten. An interesting stat in this one: Rep.Dominicana had the same amount of Free throws made as they had field goals made :O POTG: Socrates Zuniga had a team high 16 points, a game high 10 assists and an 11.5 rating.

Argentina 113 at Guatemala 56
Argentina absolutely crushed Guatemala with a dominating 57 point victory, one big stat Argentina had 28 assists to Guatemala's 7. POTG: Frederic Striesen had a team high 18 points, 6 assists, 12.5 rating and went 3 for 3 from downtown.

Chile 131 at Jamaica 68
This game was utter domination from the start to finish. Jamaica even CTd Chiles TIE and it was not enough to make this game close! Chile won the rebounding battle by 16 rebounds and the assists battle by 28 assists. POTG: Manuel Irarrazaval had a game high 25 points, a game high 16 rebounds and 8 assists to go with.. brace yourself... a 17.0 rating in a U21 game, thats downright nasty.

1.Chile U21(1) 3-0 329 181
2.Argentina U21(2) 3-0 341 223
3.Panama U21(3) 3-0 301 233
4.Ecuador U21(4) 3-0 280 230
5.Jamaica U21(5) 0-4 349 452
6.Rep. Dominicana U21(7) 0-4 258 378
7.Guatemala U21(6) 0-4 260 421

Picks:
Ecuador(48) at Chile(17)
If Chile can have a repeat performance of last week, they will win this game easily and I feel as though they can. My pick: Manuel Irarrazaval leads Chile to another victory.

Panama(45) at Argentina(10)
Both teams have about equal GS, unfortunately Argentina is just a stronger team, Panama will qualify for the next round though. My pick: Argentina wins this one, Panama puts up a minor fight but not even close.

Jamaica(95) at Guatemala(91)
This game looks like it could be the only close game this week. Gameshape wise they are pretty much equal. Talent wise they are fairly similiar, although Guatemala has the guard advantage, jamaica has a slight inside advantage though. My pick: Jamaica is coming off a CT and Guatemala is coming off what I assume to be a TIE, I think thatll be the difference.

Americas U21 continentals

Pool B:

Results:

Paraguay 84 at Mexico 93
This game was a close one, but Mexico was able to pull it out as they shouldve. Paraguay actually put up some good ratings, but Mexico was able to match and beat that. Paraguay was up after the first quarter but then lost every quarter after that. POTG: Gabriel Guzman had 18 points, 7 rebounds, 3 assists and an 11.5 rating.

United States 150 at Puerto Rico 106
This one was just a mismatch and United States highflying offense was too much for Puerto Rico to handle. THe individual ratings and the team ratings put up by United States was extremely impressive and Puerto Rico just had no answer to United States Run and Gun offense. United States were able to put up 43 points in a quarter twice and scored 30 or more in each quarter. POTG: The 20 year old guard star Jimmie Brown was able to put up 28 points on 11-13 fg shooting and 6-6 3pt shooting while also getting 4 assists, 3 rebounds and a game high 15.5 rating.

Brasil 122 at Bolivia 57
Brasil really outmatched Bolivia in this one, cruising to the easy 65 point victory in this one. Brasil had 24 more rebounds and 22 more assists. However looking at Brasil's ratings I think they look weaker then the United States right now. POTG: Gilbertao Rampelotto had 17 points, a game high 5 assists, 3 rebounds and a 17.5 rating.

1.Brasil U21(1) 3-0 359 229
2.Colombia U21(2) 3-0 349 228
3.United States U21(3) 3-0 372 259
4.Paraguay U21(5) 2-1 321 285
5.México U21(4) 1-3 326 401
6.Puerto Rico U21(6) 0-4 366 497
7.Bolivia U21(7) 0-4 309 503

Picks:

Paraguay(70) at United States(5)
I really like the Gameshape update that Paraguay got(besides one player at inept) however the United States are just too strong a team. United States had a pretty decent GS update as well and look poised and ready to possible win this group. My pick: United States wins this one on even effort levels.

Colombia(38) at Brasil(18)
Both teams had about equal GS updates and they are close talent wise. With slight edge to Brasil with the guards and a slight edge inside for Colombia. I don't think this game is too important however as both teams will advance to the next round. My pick: Brasil is a little bit too strong.

Bolivia(96) at Puerto Rico(90)
Puerto Rico is a bit stronger then their ranking tells I think and Bolivia is a work in progress right now. If Puerto Rico wants any shot at advancing to the next round they must win this game. My pick: Bolivia uses more effort but loses this one.

U21 americas continentals

Pool A:

Results:

Costa Rica 89 at Venezuela 133
Venezuela took full control of this game from the get go and was able to win this one handily. Individually and team wise the ratings were really good from Venezuela who look like a team that could make some noise. POTG: Emiro Caridad had 23 points, 12 rebounds and went 11-12 from the field while putting up a game high 14.0 rating.

Peru 117 at Barbados 36
Peru had HCA and played one of the worst countries in buzzerbeater. This game was ugly with an 81 point difference. Peru even put up some impressive ratings thatll win them lots of games. Barbados only made 13 field goals the whole game. POTG: Miguel Angel Huamancaja had 22 points, a game high 25 rebounds, a game high 5 assists and a 15.0 rating in the victory.

Canada 115 at Bahamas 42
This game resembled the previous game quite a bit. However it was only a 73 point difference. Canada had some good ratings with their PTB offense and the Bahamas still had terrible ratings. POTG: Isaac Massicotte had a game high 19 points, 18 rebounds and a game high 13.5 rating.

1.Peru U21(3) 3-0 326 162
2.Uruguay U21(2) 3-0 356 196
3.Canada U21(1) 3-0 320 179
4.Costa Rica U21(5) 2-1 307 292
5.Venezuela U21(4) 1-3 378 360
6.Bahamas U21(7) 0-4 232 465
7.Barbados U21(6) 0-4 219 484

Costa Rica(70) at Peru(30)
Peru has HCA, but even if they didn't they would win this game with relative ease. Costa Rica isn't a very strong team, but they aren't the weakest either. I think they'll be smart and pick their spots the rest of the way. My pick: Peru wins this one on same effort levels.

Uruguay(24) at Canada(19)
This is going to be the big game of the week and could very well decide who finishes first in this pool. Gameshape wise the teams had fairly similiar GS updates, however Canada is hurt by William Rivas being at inept GS. I think Canada has a slight advantage down low and on the outside. My pick: Both teams use the same effort level, Canada comes out victorious in a close match.

Bahamas(98) at Barbados(92)
Its the epic matchup, the rivalry of all rivalries. The one chance that either of these teams have at winning. I think Barbados has an edge talent wise being the only team with a 10k+ player and they have a GS advantage as well, as they had more luck with the GS. My pick: In a game using unnecessay amounts of effort Barbados will come out on top and get the crucial victory.

World Cup:

Pool A:

since jfarb was kind enough to do some recaps for last weeks games, ill just have picks for this week.

1.Chile(2) 2-0 249 210
2.Italia(1) 2-0 267 246
3.Uruguay(3) 1-1 234 232
4.Misr(6) 1-1 220 227
5.Australia(5) 0-2 231 258
6.Philippines(4) 0-2 218 246

Picks:

Phillipines(16) at Australia(15)
This game is massive as it is basically a must win for both teams. Phillipines has some GS issues with their big men, but had a great GS update for their guards, expect an outside offense from them. Australia had a good GS update for their bigs and their guards had a less impressive GS update and are also wekaer then Phillipines' guards. Expect an inside offense from them. My pick: Australia uses a little more effort and win this game.

Chile(1) at Misr(32)
Misr is coming off an impressive upset over the Philippines, Chile is coming off winning the world championships. Chile is stronger and has the better talent. This game get ugly. My pick: Chile cruises to victory.

Uruguay(11) at Italia(4)
Italia is scary good. Like frightening. They have great GS on all of their players, including their monsters. They are also stronger than Uruguay who actually had a good GS update, but not enough to compete with Italia. My pick: Italia wins and Uruguay is forced to have to win at least one of their last two games.

Pool B:
1.Poland(1) 2-0 305 249
2.United States(4) 2-0 242 220
3.España(2) 1-1 217 209
4.Canada(5) 1-1 224 234
5.China(3) 0-2 195 221
6.Al Maghrib(6) 0-2 245 295

Picks:

United States(8) at Al Maghrib(60)
Joe Bronson is at proficient GS, thats not good for Al Maghrib. United States have plenty of top notch players at proficient GS right now and that spells disaster for Al Maghrib. My pick: United States wins and books their ticket to the 2nd round.

Poland(6) at China(3)
Poland is coming off a high scoring game that saw them crush Al Maghrib. Poland also has HCA which is crucial in the world cup. Poland also has an extremely strong team. This is not good for any teams, even the strong China team. My pick: China saves some effort and loses this one, preparing for back to back must wins.

Canada(10) at Espana(5)
Espana is strong all over the court, but this looks like a week where Canada can really make an upset, judging by the GS update for Canada they're roster is at possible as good as it is going to get. Canada will most likely only need one more win to advance to the 2nd round. My pick: Same effort and Espana takes this one in a close game that comes down to the fourth quarter.
