Coach Smith used to say that a team can compensate for the loss of a key player for one game, but beyond that they will experience issues.

BTW the only other team to beat UNC and Dook in the same tourney was Louisville back in 1986 as Never Nervous Pervis Ellison and company beat the Heels in the Sweet 16 and Dook in the final.

IF Real Carolina makes it to Monday I will actually be running appointments in the upstate of South Cackalacky which is staunch Clemson country, the possibility of the other Carolina having both the football and basketball champion is just unsettling. Those people will live off of it for 50 years. But I suspect Clemson fan will be in my boys corner, it's an ACC thing you know, which is something that applies for everyone except DOOK because everyone hates those sonsabitches.

IF it becomes a boarder war out in the desert one of the underlying historical story lines will be the legacy of Frank McGuire who was the coach at UNC in the 50's before leaving in the wake of the point shaving scandal that lead to the demise of the great Dixie Classic (the premier holiday tournament of its time). He would return to the ACC in the mid 60's at USC turning a previously morbid program into a true contender, though his teams to put it kindly were rough hewn. Ok they were out and out thugs.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h4UqMyldS7Q The heels somehow survive a game they truly should have lost, and my boys pull off a win on the road that I did not expect, figured I could keep it close but the 22-4 run in the final minutes was a unexpected and pleasant surprise. Ok we dropped a spot in the standings but it's all good, Ladson to be honest in spite of their youth have much more overall upside in spite of their owners sandbagging like he is getting ready for Hurricane Matthew.

A long day on the road and a long game has me very tired but happy about the Heels winning it all. Normally I rant and rave but tonight I actually took the game in quite subdued and reflective This was not a pretty title run, but you beat who you play and ain't nobody awarding style points. My initial reaction is this was not for opportunity lost last year but for all the times UNC has had a team that could win it all but didn't, because winning a NCAA title is mighty tough. It will be interesting how history remembers this team. WOW Roy now has more trophies than Dean Smith and will soon pass him in wins in about three years, but as he said he will never be Dean because of the man Dean was.

Congrats on your heals winning. I imagine this will be one of the more forgettable championships though. If you're going to show old championships this is the most unwatchable along with that uconn/Butler one.

Even if it's not pretty, as long as the NCAA doesn't vacate it, nobody can take it away, and championships are special things. Whether it's a dominant team running through everyone or a scrappy team pulling out several upsets or just a businesslike team just getting the job done, winning that last game and cutting down the nets is a forever moment.

I was actually shocked to hear on the radio this morning that Florida's a preseason top 5/top 10 team depending on the poll. And then I was really shocked to hear that they've been in the elite 8 five of the past eight years - and that doesn't even include the back to back titles last decade. When I think back to it, logically it makes sense - they did go four straight years and did make the Final Four in the last of those four, but the two years outside of the tournament kind of makes that feel further in the past. It's amazing to think they're now in the top 16 in tournament wins alltime when I remember that they first made the tournament with Vernon Maxwell and of course didn't even get to keep those appearances because of NCAA sanctions.

Well doesn't look like a deep run in the cup for the boys as a trip to the Florida Champs is on the docket for this evening, smells like a CT might be coming my way. At the very least my opponent has more pliability going into the contest as in spite of my efforts to curtail my minutes for my important cogs I may not have enough oomph for the occasion without wreaking my GS for the following week.

I'm scheduled against New Bedford which seems fishy and improbable.

If there were shady dealings afoot, I wouldn't have gone up against another GM who conveniently had a tanking team on his schedule this week. Unless I'm a victim too. This may go all the way to the top, unlike yours truly, who can make it as far as the door before impaling himself on the door knocker.

The Coastal Carolina thing really puzzles me. If you're on a cheer squad, you should figure you can pretty much get just about anything you want out of a guy anyhow, so flat out prostitution makes little sense.
