I've done that for half a season including for towards the end of the playoffs (when i sold one of my players), i got very different results.

If you do this, the starters will get more minutes and player X tends to play one position MOST (not all) of the time instead of ideally both positions.. It seemed like the bot wasn't properly set up for this because it tends to bring out all the starters/backups at the same time (not always but every start of a quarter) causing player X to just play one position for most of the game.

It is very risky and i don't advice you to do it during important games (TV, playoffs, etc.) For one (check out my box score) what happened in game 3 of my Season 9 finals was player X got injured! That was just horrible because he was injured after playing 3 minutes and caused both my starters to play for the rest of the game.. Was just lucky i was still in a low division and manged to pull that off. Goodluck!

i tried this before with 3 big mens..i set my lineup this way.....i had my center in starting C, and reserve PF.My pf in starting PF and reserve C...while my player x was backup for both C/PF...the results was okay...i remembered my center and pf playing for about40 mins each and player x played about 8 mins for pf and 8 for c...this happened to me....hope it helps...
