In it's very basic form, it's pretty much Salary * a modifier based on GS. At Respectable Game Shape, you'll notice that most players are at 10 times their salary as their DMI. So, yes, it's fairly meaningless for the most part. It's kind of nice to be able to eyeball your trainees new salaries midseason, but other than that, there are better tools for reading player strength.
