identify your worst foulers, and get rid of them if possible. Oh, and play slow tactics.

some addtional observations...

2-3 defense shouldn't be played if you don't have good outside defenders on the guard spots. You don't have the team to play it.

you ball movement isn't too great. if the ball is stuck in the hands of a player with a bad matchup, he'll be forced to jack up some contested jumper. Not the kind of shot you want your guys to take. at all.

If the game was only about the best team on paper winning, then it would be kind of boring. Just like in real life sometimes the lesser team wins, however most of the time is not the case.

And remember as i have found this out myself through experience, the worst foulers are generall your teams worst defenders. I don't know if you have good skills in outside def or inside def or not, but that's generally the reason why some players foul more often, is because of their bad defense. Sometimes though, that might not be the reason.

The game engine is not broken. You were just unlucky. Putting less in the game didn't help either.
Plus... Princeton + 2/3 Zone? These are like the toughest offensive and defensive tactics you could have used (in regards to players you must have for them to work).
