I see your point when it comes down to the final o head to head, but honestly, to make this mechanism kick in both teams playing the final have to have the same record. Of course a better winning record will determine the "homecourrt" any given day. Tie breaker only kicks in when it´s teams tied in record.

head to head, also decides about draft position, in this case the home team had the disadvantage. So there are more then one position, and i don't think i believe in most cases the winner would be more random since you didn't know which head to head you had to win and at least small sacrificies are encessary to be succesful(normal, rotation at the starters etc. over a season also the PD it get closer to a "average" then over 2 games).
